Fly

There once was a boy.

This boy was very special, for he could fly.

No, not with wings or even a plane flying over the ground,

But in his wandering mind.

For while this young child slept peacefully,

Thin strands of thoughts wrapped themselves around his fingers,

Touching his toes and tickling his nose.

The pulsing threads wove their way steadily around his heart,

Clutching till he could barely breathe.

He was a lawyer, a doctor, an astronaut, and all three rolled into one.

He was married to a supermodel,

And vacationed at large abodes across a majestic lake.

He had beautiful children, all sons and great athletes.

They loved him and he loved them.

And on that February day he lay in bed,

Listening to his heart.

For it was saying that all of his dreams have come true,

All his wishes were fulfilled.

And as he stood feeling the salty spray hit pock-marked cheeks,

He closed his eyes.

He remembered a dream that he once had,

Many years ago.

He told his heart, “Not all of them,  not yet.”

So now, he decided, was the time to fly.
