I jumped into my car as fast as I could, stuffing my bag onto the passenger seat and slamming the door shut. I slammed my foot on the accelerate and pulled out onto the road, gaining myself a few honks from nearby cars. Within a few minutes I was ramming my keys into my front door, “Come on, come on” I said as the keys kept slipping in my hand. Suddenly the door opened and I fell flat on my face, wincing I scrabbled around on the floor before running into Sophie’s room.
“Sophie! Sophie!” I said banging my fist on the door of her room. The door opened and a bleary eyed Sophie stood before me, her hair sticking out in weird places. “You do realise it’s the middle of the day right?” I said staring at her. She gave me a ‘so what’ look and I continued, describing the boy to Sophie. “I don’t know Em, talk to me in the morning.” She said shuffling into her bedroom. “Come on Sophie please... please please please please” I said at the foot of her bed. She threw he pillow at me and groaned. “He sounds like Ashley Highland to me ok.” She said. I jumped on top of her and hugged her tightly. But to my disbelief she was already snoring. I tiptoed out of the room and sat down in the living room, laptop on my lap.
I scrolled through his face book page, looking at his likes and dislikes. I dithered around pondering whether to send him a friend request when I heard the letter box open and close. I hit ‘add as a friend’ and walked to the door. On the floor was a small envelope with my name on it. I opened the letter and immediately my heart rate accelerated. It read:
I always knew that love would come find me someday
but never did I know that it would be you who was headed my way
you caught me off guard and took me by surprise
So in a club a note I had to devise
Today I saw you once more
And I could keep these feelings to myself no more
I hope that one day soon I’ll be able to talk to you
But for now you make me too shy, your eyes shining so blue
But one day soon I will, you’ll see.
I smiled as I re read the letter a few times, as cheesy as it was someone had taken the time to write it for me and that’s what was important. Just then my computer beeped. I walked over and saw that ‘Ashley Highland has accepted your friend request’. I stared at the letter and then back at the computer. I sat down heavily on my couch all sorts of thoughts racing through my head.
