Percy's POV:
After all that we'd been through, we deserved a break. There was nothing left for the gods to throw at Annabeth and I that we couldn't handle. We were finally happy and the weirdest thing was, that we were completely and utterly; relaxed. I had to say, it felt pretty great.
"What are you thinking about? You're staring, seaweed brain." A voice pulled me from my thoughts and back to reality. Annabeth was looking at me the same way she looked at me the first time she met me. The time I had pudding on my face. (A couple months ago, I was looking around the attic at Camp Half-Blood and found a picture of me in the infirmary, the day I had pudding on my face. To say the least, I wasn't impressed.) That seemed so long ago. Now, Annabeth and I were sitting at a cafe in New Rome, drinking iced coffee in the warm summer air. Who would have thought that our lives would suddenly become so normal?
But I should've known that our luck wouldn't last.
Annabeth and I finished our drinks and walked around through the fields, looking at the sculptures and buildings. Annabeth tried to tell me about them but as usual, my eyes glazed over as soon as I had to actually use my brain. We sat down on a hill overlooking the glittering pavilion. We held hands, simply enjoying the warmth and trying to ignore snickering onlookers.
After a while, Annabeth and I started getting fidgety. It was really hard to sit still, so I stood up and offered Annabeth my hand. She smiled and took it. I helped her up, then I gave her peck on the cheek and her smile grew even wider. Just as she was about to say something, a misty image formed in the air. The image was dark and it was hard to see, but it was no doubt, an Iris message.
"Who is it?" Annabeth said, trying to figure out who the caller was. A distant voice replied through the screen.
"It's me, Thalia!" Said the daughter of Zeus.
"Uh oh." I mumbled to myself quietly. Thalia wasn't someone who usually caught up with friends outside of her group of Hunters. She usually called us when there was trouble.
"Hey Thalia, what's up?" Annabeth said cheerily.
"So, funny story...I'm kind of sitting in the dining hall of this -um...school..."
