Freya Moore sat in her cell picking at her nails. Unlike the other prisoners currently being escorted out of their cells into a sea of pushing teenagers, Freya was calm, as she knew exactly what was about to happen.

They will collect you from your cells at midday, her father's voice recited in her head, they will put a metal wristband around your wrist. It transmits your vital signs back to us, so don't take it off. They will put you on an Exodus Ship with ninety-nine other criminals and they will launch you as soon as possible. Don't do anything stupid, stay in your seat and don't take your wristband off.

She wished she had a watch, the waiting was making her anxious and bored. She looked around her dark, windowless cell for the last time and let a smile creep on her face. Even if she died, at least she would never have to see this place again. She recalled her father telling her that she had a chance to live now, but she only saw it as a shortcut or second option, to death. In her very short time in the Skybox, she'd imagined every possible way her death could pan out. She could die immediately from high radiation levels, die in the inevitable crash landing or get mauled or eaten by some radiated animal.

Freya groaned and pushed herself up from her seated position against the wall. She began to pace the room, hands on her hips. Being cooped up all alone gave her too much time to think. Think about the past week and the awaiting week. Time to think about her sister.

On the Ark, there was a very strict one child policy. But currently there were two illegal teenagers aboard the Ark, at least two that the council were aware of. One was Octavia Blake, who had been hidden under the floor for sixteen years before she was caught at the masquerade dance last year. Freya's friends had pointed out her older brother to her since then. His name was Bellamy Blake, he was training to be a guard when it all happened. Once Octavia was caught and locked up, Bellamy was revoked of his Cadetship and his mother was floated. Freya had no idea what he did now.

The other illegal child, was Freya's twin sister, Luna Moore. The twins had never met before and Freya only found out about her existence roughly a year ago. Luna's arrest was much more complicated than Octavia's. Freya didn't know all the details. She had spent an entire year imagining how meeting her twin would go. How they would hug, what she would tell her, how she would apologise for the unfair life she had received, whilst Freya had received the perfect life. Well, almost perfect.

She'd had the perfect life up until a year ago, when she found out about Luna, and her mother got sick. She'd been the Queen Bee among her year in the Ark. Either people wanted to date her, kill her or be her. She could get away with anything on her reputation alone and always had a large group of friends to feed her gossip and compliments. Her dad was -and still is-  on the council, which meant her family was wealthy and well looked after, and her mother had been a doctor, but they needed more than that to save her. They had needed a miracle.

Finally, after what seemed like hours, the door to her cell burst open and three armed guards entered.

"Prisoner four-one-two face the wall," a tall, dark skinned guard ordered with a bored tone. He dropped a case on the table in the cell and popped it open, revealing the metal wristbands. Freya took a deep breath and faced the wall.

"Hold out your arm," one of the other guards spoke, he was younger but he sounded confident nonetheless. Freya held out her shaky left arm. The guard stepped closer and Freya reminded herself not to fight the guards as he grabbed her arm harshly and snapped the wristband around her small wrist. She hissed in pain.

"This way please," the third guard ordered kindly. She was a middle aged woman with a tight smile and loose blonde curls cascading down her back. Freya gave her a polite nod before stepping out of her cell, her blue eyes immediately searching the anxious crowd of teenagers for anyone that looked even remotely like her. Her eyes caught on a head of long blonde hair in a ponytail. Her heart fell when she recognised the blonde's face. It was Clarke Griffin, one of the smartest girls in Freya's year. Their mother's had worked together, and both girls had spent many evenings in the hospital helping their mothers and training to become doctors themselves. But they rarely spoke, it was mostly awkward glances and some small talk. Freya remembered her mother coming home after work and telling Freya that Clarke had been arrested for treason, and her father, Jake Griffin, had been floated. She recalled Clarke's mother, Abby Griffin, who was there comforting her distraught and confused daughter, being very supportive and helpful when Freya's mother fell ill.

The young guard grabbed Freya's bicep in his harsh grip and Freya muttered a swear at him, which thankfully he didn't hear. He pushed her towards the awaiting Exodus Ship, which was growing more and more crowded with delinquents. The other two guards had left. As Freya was pushed into a seat on the second floor, she continued to frantically scan the infinite sea of teenagers and their armed guards. She saw Clarke being carried in unconscious and seated next to Wells Jaha, the chancellor's son. He had been arrested around the same time as Freya.

Next to her was a boy with long, messy brown hair. He was smirking and appeared rather confident despite the situation. Freya recalled his name to be Finn, they were sort of friends back in school. More like mutual friends. Freya remembered hearing about his crime. He'd gone on an illegal spacewalk, Freya had been rather impressed, even if it did cause the Ark to lose three months of precious oxygen. On the other side of Freya was a boy who looked no older than thirteen. Freya was almost concerned to see that he was so calm.

Freya sat quietly whilst everyone around her panicked to one another. She double-checked that her seat-belt was secure and held a firm grip on the bars beside her head. It seemed that her and Finn were the only ones out of the hundred teenagers that were calm.

A sudden rumbling and shaking caused the confused teenagers to shout, before the ship was detached from The Ark, making its descent to Earth rapidly and shakily.

They were on their own now.
