Shiro Kaneki X Reader (requested)

[beloved Reader Chan's POV]

"CCG forces are calling for the evacuation of all 20th ward residents. Large amounts of ghoul activity..."

"Blah blah blah" My head averted from the tv and to Hide who was sitting across from me and had a nonchalant look On his face as he Slowly sipped the coffee from his cup.

My eyes rolled and I placed the brim of my coffee to my lips too, letting the pungent aroma waft up into my nose.

Anteiku Was quiet, unusual since the small homey cafe was usually one containing large amounts of side chatter from other customers, but besides me and Hide there was no one.

The Staff was short too.

It all seemed so unreal and unantraul to not have touka or Kaneki or even nishiki around constantly bantering with each other giving all of Anteiku's customers something they could laugh about when there was really nothing to laugh about anymore.

But Kaneki has been gone for a long while, and touka has been studying non stop. It seems that ever sense aogiri tree and CCG have been butting heads things have completely become less familiar, and realizing that everything I know is slowly going away, is a lot scarier than any ghoul.

"Here's your check." The waitress dropped a piece of paper on the table and began walking back to the kitchen door, I looked down at the piece of paper and then looked back out the window at the 20th ward. It didn't even look like a once bustling community it looked like a ghost town, maybe a ghoul town. I laughed at my lame attempt at a joke in my head.

Hide reached out for the check but I quickly grabbed it first and looked at the amount. "It's just two coffees, I can handle it." He threw his arms up in mock surrender before crossing them over his chest and looking across the room.

Pulling out the money I set it down on the table leaving a small tip regardless of how unapproachable our server was acting, it was as nice of a gesture as I could manage.

Me and Hide stood up, and Hide walked around to my side of the table grabbing the coat off the back of my chair and helping me put it on. I rolled my eyes but the small smirk playing at my lips gave away my amusement.

Later that evening I stood at the bookstore where I usually sought refuge during cold and gloomy days. I never bought anything, the only thing I really ever had money for now a days was coffes with hide. It was nice to look at what I couldn't have though, I'd take a book and start reading it stopping at a eventful part and putting it back promising myself one day I'd have the money to buy it myself and finish reading it.

The door to the shop jingled as it opened, spiking my interest. I stood in the back and I peered my head around the book shelves. Hinami stood with her hands on her knees breathing heavily, I quickly walked to her.

"[Your name]-Chan..." She breathed out in a fit full of gasps, I grabbed her hands holding onto them as I looked into her eyes. "What is it Hinami chan?"

"It's big brother"

Quickly I side stepped Hinami and ran as fast as my legs could carry me to Anteiku. "Where is he?" I quickly asked placing my palms hard on the counter. The attendant stared wide eyed at me and pointed they're finger past me towards the door. I ran again chastising myself on my stupidity for not noticing him.

But when I walked out onto the street again there was hardly anyone and those who where there weren't kaneki.

I ran again frantically looking all around, before I reached a bridge where he stood looking out at the 20th ward, I made my way up the steps my eyes wide in anticipation on seeing him again.

Touka got to him first though, and before I knew it in her fit of rage she began throwing punches at him, before one hit him, and he fell to the ground where she sat on top of him hitting her fists against his face screaming.

Suddenly she got up and walked away leaving him laying in the middle of the bridge holding his Jaw with his hand. I slowly walked to him as he began to sit up and he stopped, looking at me like I was hardly there, a ghost.

I reached out my my hand and helped him up, regardless of whether he needed the asistance or not the touch of his skin against mine again almost felt like things could go back to normal. But they were far from normal.

He didn't say anything, neither of us did for the longest time until he touched his hand against my face brushing away a tear that I didn't realize had started running down my cheek.

"You look diffrent." I finally said. He smirked very discretely but I could just make it out at the corner of his mouth. "i am different." He whispered.

My head lowered to my boot clad feet, serving me a distraction from looking directly at his face. "How I feel about you though," he paused as if considering his words. "that's not diffrent" his hand that had been running circles along my cheek wrapped around my torso and pulled me closer, close enough that I could see how much he has changed, his eyes held little to no emotion, but way in there was a spark of something.

Not knowing what to do with my hands I just placed them on his face, holding him, trying to secure him with me now so that he didn't leave me again before I could tell him how I've felt ever sense I've met him, the shy little black haired boy.

Before I could comprehend his lips were against mine, and his hot breath warmed me from the inside out enveloping me in a sense of security. My hands ran up to his hair lacing my fingers in his white locks.

As he was letting go, afraid he would leave forever I grabbed his wrist and hung onto him for a little while longer. "Please be safe, please come back to me." I begged. He nodded understanding what I was asking but not knowing if he could promise it would come true.

He walked away and I stood with my hands to my sides as I longingly stared after him. I couldn't run to him, he was to far gone.

I was stupid, letting him leave, he has to come back to me now, I didn't get to tell him what I wanted to tell him.
