Amity's POV:
~flashback (2 years before)~
I flinched when I heard the front door being unlocked and ran to the back room to make sure everything was perfect. He's extremely moody when he gets back and I hadn't done everything perfect.
"AMITY!" Was all I heard and I knew I messed up. I closed my eyes, dusted off my skirt, and clutched my pink elephant stuffie before walking slowly into the front room.
"Yes, sir?" I said softly, staring at my toes in fear that eye contact would make him violent. Ever since mom vanished, he's changed into a sad man when he's sober and a unpredictable one when he's high.
"I want you to meet a friend of mine. LOOK AT ME WHEN I'M SPEAKING!" I jump and look up at the man before me, trying to hold eye contact although I'm already shaking.
"H-hewwo" I say softly before I feel myself being pushed to the floor.
"WHAT DID I TELL YOU ABOUT THAT LITTLE KID SHIT?! I SWEAR YOU'RE SUCH A FUCKING EMBARRASSMENT, A COPY OF YOUR FUCKING MOTHER." He screamed at me before his friend stepped in
"Hey, it's okay. I like it, it's kinky." Is all I could hear before the disgusting man get down on his knees in front of me and started petting my hair.
"Hey baby" his hand started sliding up my thigh slowly, "it's okay, I'll take real good care of you later" he laughed in my face before pulling my head back by my hair and putting his disgusting lips on mine. I quickly pulled away and clutched Junie tighter against me.
"May I go now, sir?" I nearly begged, before I heard a scoff and a beer can I didn't know was in his hand was thrown at my face.
"Please, I can't stand to look at you."
I scramble to my feet and started toward my room when I felt a harsh slap across my bum. I held back a yelp of pain and rushed to my room in the basement. Before going down I heard a faint
"If you think she's good, wait until you see the other one."
I ran down the stairs as fast as I could. "We have to go." I whispered softly to the small, pale girl sitting on the floor playing with my teddies.
"What d-do you mean, mitty?" She looked up at me and whispered, startled. She was as old as me but weaker, with her long blonde hair clinging to her sweaty face due to the sweltering heat of the summer in this basement.
"If we don't leave now, something really bad might happen to you, Nitie."
I was used to this but I could never let anything happen to her.
"You know we can't weav--" she said, terror shining in her innocent blue eye.
I stood for a second and looked at the scared girl before me; How had our lives become like this? When I was little, everyone thought my life was perfect. Loving family, a beautiful home, dozens of friends and here I was, in a dark basement. I looked from the small bags hidden in the corner of my room to the small window I'd been starving myself to be able to fit through since graduating two month before and made the decision the minute I heard the basement door above slowly opening.
"We have to go." I grabbed her fragile wrist, stuffed Junie and all her stuffies in our bags and once we climbed out the now broken window, started running for dear life.
