John loved being a farmer it's something he knew,working on the water system he smiles as his beautiful wife Mary and daughter Claire,8 years ago he married his high school sweetheart and never looked back his accident put a set back to him holding his daughter but he quickly recovered Mary had Claire two months after his accident.
A year later Mary and his Parents bought this house for them and he got to work remodeling it to their liking finally after two years it was ready to live in,John packed him and his family up and brought them home the good thing about the location was their was only one neighbor a women and her son.
Now his daughter was going on 8 and thriving but him and his wife weren't only having money problems but marital problems as well,she not happy with the struggle their under and kept in contact with her ex boyfriend asking him for a loan John didn't like it and has let her know as much.
Today was another bad day but John just smiles not to show his daughter their fighting "daddy look what I drew in school today" the little girl held up a drawing of him and his corn fields with writing that said "my daddy's the best" it warmed John's heart she sees him that way.
As John was working on the tractor a old man approaches him,John not wanting company after Craig from the bank just left telling John their fixing to take the house away from him due to the corn Crop not selling due to the crow's eating it. "John Rollins?" The Santa looking man said "yeah what ya want" the man held out a six pack John sighed he quiet drinking years ago "my names Jude weatherby and I'm just moved my trailer on they other side of your property and couldn't help notice your crops bad them crow's got you to" John just nods his head "wait Weatherby as in the Rich Weatherbys" the fat man laughs "yup they ones well until the bank to over a couple years ago" John heard all about that " sorry man I heard about that" the man walks over to the scarecrow John found in his barn "dam son this will solve your problems right here just set him in the middle and bye bye crows" John investigates the scarecrow again thinking it over "yeah I just might thanks" the man pats his back and vegans walking out "do it son and all your problems will go away,take it from a old timer,well I'm off to meet the other neighbor Miss Reeds and her son have a good day John come by anytime".
The man walked away leaving a confused John 'Reeds why does that name sound familiar' he thought trying to rack his brain for anything familiar' but coming up short he shakes his head grabbing the scarecrow and things to set him up preying this worked, hours later the scarecrow up and fresh seeds planted John strolls into the house seeing Mary Cooking Dinner while Claire colored he stop giving his daughter a kiss before walking up behind Mary kissing her neck " smells good what's they occasion" she smiles at him kissing his cheek "I invited Claire teacher to come for dinner she'll be here in about an hour with her son,so go get cleaned up"
John jumped into the shower quickly cleaning up,after getting dressed he strolled into the kitchen to see a little brown haired blue eyed boy who kinda looked like him but he shook that thought off quickly and a young women who stops John in his tracks she was incredibly beautiful and had John jeans tightening, she laughed and his heart about exploded the sound was so sweet to him but John was confused he's never looked at another women since Mary except for porn on lonely nights and yet here he is thinking of many ways to fuck this women he's yet to learn her name but just the body and laugh seemed so Familiar to him it scared him
Walking into the kitchen I kiss Mary and lean against the counter "John meet Lexi Reeds and her son Johnny Claire teacher" he smiles but her smile seems pained as she leans over to shake his hand when there hands touch a shock goes threw John and he jumps back as the kids run into the kitchen "Mr.Rollins what's that thing outside?" The little boy ask as he stares at John, John feels like he should know that boy but shakes the thought "it's a scarecrow it's supposed to scare off the crow's that eats the corn I grow" leaning in front of the boy holding his daughter he sees the same sad look in the boys eyes making John wonder why "is your daddy coming he really shouldn't miss dinner,that's what mom tells daddy huh daddy" Claire kisses John cheek smiling as the boy looks down and walks away "Johnny hold on baby,sorry about that um..Johnny daddy never been in the picture he um left before I found out I was pregnant pretended he didn't know me after he did find out" Lexi looks right into John's eyes as she's walks outside to comfort her saden son.
John stands up frowning at the story "I didn't mean to make him sad" Claire frowned "Claire baby you didn't know it's okay just don't mention nothing about his daddy okay" Claire nods walking outside to find her teacher and her knew friend "that man's needs a ass kicking for doing that, that boy needs his father, wait Reeds as I'm our only neighbors since we moved in?" Mary nods as Claire walks back in with them.
After dinner the kids are playing on the swings outside as they adults sit on the porch drinking ice tea Lexi pulls out a cigarette pack and a Zippo lighter "do you mind" they just nod as if saying go ahead but John's attention is on her mouth as he sees her lighting the cigarette but quickly lands the Zippo that he remembers having the same one in high school but lost it in the accident
"Cool Zippo I used to have one where ya get yours I would love to have one again" as John borrows it lighting his own he sees something that catches his eye they initials on the lid 'JRollins' he didn't ask her right now about but felt the story behind why her Zippo was identical to his old one and had his initials was something Mary shouldn't hear "uh..my ex left it when he had to move away I don't know where he got it"
Sitting there watching the kids play John kept glancing at Lexi he feels like he knows her but can't remember her or even a Lexi he wonders if he lent one of his friends his lighter and they left it with her.
