Stranger on the beach
####Its been two weeks since the gay bashing I received and the doctors said I was healing very quickly. As I had returned to the Alvarez family home two days after being emitted, the pain had stung even worse than before. I had had to sleep in the room no one had occupied since being in mine had gave me nightmares every night and staying in theirs was no option either. It took me quite a while to realise that I was truly on my own, abandoned in a place unknown to me.
I was left abroad and had no place to go, but to the generosity of a friend and his parents.
I was broken for quite some time, but after that first week I grew out of it. They were monsters and I was never truly happy. So then why mope when they finally threw me away? So in the week after that I was a bit better, accepting of my fate with nowhere to go. I started feeling better and then that one day had came and made everything feel surreal.
I remembered waking up and hearing a conversation, I wouldn't have heard it if there wasn't three people involved, Micheal, his mom and his dad. I couldn't make anything out but non the less put some clothes on to go see what they were discussing. As I got closer to the dining room part of the house, I saw them sitting and discussing something with papers on the table. As I approached they gave me smiles and told me to sit down. Wearily I took a seat and looked at them.
I remember how excited Mrs. Alvarez was but her husband beat her to it. He explained that they had the money and the lawyer connections to get some stuff done. Then he elaborated. They were discussing waving custody of me from my parents and then taking it them selves, in a sense of easier words it would be like adopting me. I was gobsmacked and at a total loss for words. I couldn't help but just stare at them, their smiles and then after a few moments, frowns.
Tears had started rolling down my face without me even realising it. Why would they want to do something like that. Micheal sat net to me and then confirmed that they would do nothing against my will.
"Why," I asked with a shaky voice.
"Because we care about you, even though we only knew a while back, you were already like family to us. You and Micheal were so close and we can see that bond coming through again. Greg and I know you are a good person and also hardworking and would be proud to have you as our son like our very own Micheal. But it's all up to you Nathan. . ."
It was really hard at first but through my groggy throat and watery eyes I managed to say an almost inaudible yes, so then I just nodded.
That day I saw true love and sincerity and was so grateful. There was only one hitch.
"So is it going to be Shaw or Alvarez," Mrs. Alvarez asked while filling in some forms.
"What?"
"Your surname honey, we don't want to force anything on you so that's why I'm asking. Shaw or Alvarez?"
"I... Uh..."
I stood there staring at her, totally confused as to what to do. Should I get rid of Shaw, it had a certain ring to it. I could always make it a middle name. Nathan Shaw Alvarez? Nah too long. Screw it.
