  "HALLELUJAH!"

The church shouted in sync as they stood up, some clapping and rapidly nodding their heads, others raising their hands up, and a few closing their eyes as if it was just them and the Lord Jesus in the room. I've been in the church for five, almost six hours and I was more than ready to go home. But with my mother being the choir director and my father being the priest, there was no way that I was going to be leaving this place anytime soon. "ight girl I came, worshiped a lil and now I gotta go" My bff Amira said getting all her stuff together. She had only been here for like twenty minutes but the fact that she even came at all is just amazing.

"bye" I waved, my voice showing I was not too happy with her going. "oh just come with me, they won't even notice" she whispered. "you want me to leave the church?" I gasped at her ridiculous idea. "yeah, I mean it's not like you were not thinkin' bout it for like da past three hours. let's get outta here" I don't know... "but the consciences that I would have to face are-" "oh shut up and get your bag, we are leaving" she whispered/shouted cutting me off. Without wasting any more time I got my bag and quickly stood up following her. I almost made it out the door when I just had to bump into someone. And not just anyone...my mother.

"and just where do you think you are going young lady?" she asked with her arms crossed over her chest and her right eyebrow lifting up. "Um..." I'm an extremely horrible liar. Last time I said something that was not true I was eight, and the worst bit about it is I felt so bad about that I snitched on myself like five minutes after the lie. "she doesn't feel to good, I was seating next to her and her belly sounded like two lions having a roaring competition or something, believe me, it was nasty. I don't think anyone here wants to hear dat so I'm just gon take her back home before things get nasty up in here" And as you can see Amira, on the other hand, was an expert on lying

She knew how to make herself look ill, how to fake cry, and she was good at different accents. Amira had a good lie for everything, I'm surprised she's not a famous actress. "oh is that true baby?" my mother asking stroking my shoulder as her face softened. "y-yeah" I once again, stuttered. "okay well you go home and get some rest okay, we'll all be praying for you here. I love you" she kissed my cheek smiling. "I love you too mother" As soon as she walked away I let out a sigh of relief. I can't believe it worked. "aw, y'all cute. The only time my mama says she loves me is when I bail her outta jail or buy her KFC"

Amira and I's family are very different. Mine are very strict, religious and upper class. They put God before anything else and they are lowkey very judgmental. Whereas Amira's are chill and calm. With them, it's money first and they are way more accepting and understanding than my family. "so where do you wanna go?" Amira asked once we got in her car. "I don't know and I don't mind" I said shrugging my shoulders. "aight girl, we finna go to da mall and get some cute shit" Amira gushed getting excited as her old Brooklyn accent rolled out. She moved to LA last year to get away from her dad. I don't know what the story with her father is, she doesn't really talk about him.

"you have to drop me home before five" I said putting on my seat belt. If my parents come back home and see that I'm not there,   their heads will explode and they will be so mad at me. "don't worry, I got you boo" After fifteen minutes we had finally arrived at the mall. I don't really go shopping a lot and when I do I'm most likely with my mother. "I just get a text from Keisha, Rodney is having a house party tomorrow" Rodney is one of the popular boys in our school. He is on the basketball team, he is very good looking and has a new girlfriend every week. Although he has a reputation as one of the bad boys his grades seem to never slip.

That's why his parents allow him to throw such outrageous parties. "come on" Amira said linking her arm with mine and dragging us to some random shops. "this is cute" she said holding a white sleeveless top. "it's a bit too small for you don't ya think" the size of the top looked like it was made for a twelve year old. "nonsense" she shrugged me off and went to go try it. A few minutes later she walked out of the changing room and I was right, the top was not for her. "oh dear" I said chuckling at the top that only reaches just below her breast. "sweety, I'm starting to think that you've never seen a crop top before" she said sending me a strange look.

"I've heard of them and seen a few, now go and change everyone can see your belly" I tried to shove her back in the changing room so no one could look but she stopped me. "This is what it's supposed to look like. The design of the top is to show off my skin." well that is weird. It's like when girls wear really short shorts and mini skirts. "why would you want to promote your skin to strangers? don't you know that you are making your self more vulnerable and most likely to find yourself in danger with showing sex appeal?" I think it's unnecessary to be dressed like that. "damn girl, loosen up its just fashion" she argued not seeing what was wrong with her top.

My parents are very strict about stuff like that. Where my mother grew up her male relatives should not see bits of her body such as too much legs, her belly and of course the obvious like her butt and breast. The only man that should see all parts of your skin is your husband. "you know what I don't wanna go shopping for me. I wanna go shopping for you. I'm finna give you a whole new wardrobe" I'm not really sure about how I feel with that idea. "if my parents see me dressed like you, they will-" Amira cut me off by sending me a look. "pleaseee stop making everything about your parents, this is not about them,  This is about you Nyla"
