BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

I look over to my clock and presses the snooze button, to shut off the annoying thing. I glance a look at the time.

"Fuck! I'm gonna be late for work!" Was my last thought before I jumped out of bed and got in the shower.

••••••••

once I'm out, I get dressed in my work uniform and dry my hair, then apply a subtle amount of makeup just so I didn't look like a raccoon.

Jogging downstairs, I grab my coat out of the closet and grab my keys and purse and then lock up the house, but before I leave, I take a couple seconds to look at myself in the mirror.

My hair is dark brown with little blonde spots every here and there. My eyes are an interesting shade of brown/green and I have a nice pink shade to my cheeks.

I may not be society's typical idea of beauty, but that doesn't bother me much since I know I'm beautiful in my own way.

••••••••

The drive to my job isn't really that long, so before I know it, I'm pulling up at Oliver's Diner.

It's a fairly small place, but is very popular to the students that go to college nearby.

"Hey Alexis," I greet my friend with a smile.

"Hey Elena, your a little late, did you have a little too much fun with Adam last night?" She questions, wiggling her eyebrows.

I let out a small laugh and then sighs. "No I did not, he was probably hooking up with some girl because he was declining my calls."

"I don't know why your still with that aśśhöle, clearly he treats you like crap and your still with him. You deserve way better than that annoying little prick."

"Stop giving me lectures over him. He's a good guy, it's just after his sisters death, he hasn't been the same. Give him time, he will come around sooner or later."

•••••••

I just got don't wiping down the last table when my phone buzzes. I wipe my hands off on my apron and am greeted with a text from Adam.

'Come outside for a minute, I need to talk to you about something, it's important.'

I reply 'Sure.'

I close up shop and walk outside, greeted by 3 things; cold air, wind and Adam. I walk up to him and try to hug him, but he gives me this that I know all too well. One that screams 'I am sorry.'

That's when I notice the changes in the air, it's much thicker, almost making it hard to breathe I can tell he's nervous about something.

Grabbing his hand I whisper "Whats up, are you okay?"

He pulls back with a pained expression on his face.

Then

Everything

Falls

Into

Place

"Oh my god..." I say letting everything sink into place.

"Adam, look at me," I say a bit too harshly, making him tense up and hesitantly look up.

"Your breaking up with me, aren't you?" I say, clearly wanting him to say something other than what's really about to be said.

"I'm sorry, my god. Elena you have no idea how badly I don't wanna do this-" he is cut off by my rampage.

"THEN WHY ARE YOU DOING IT THEN?"  I yell, clearly more riled up then wanted.

"The whole thing that happened with my sister... It's too much at the moment. It was hard enough to even gather the guts to get out the house to come break it to you. I'm sorry. But I-I can't  do this - us right now. I was hoping you understood."

I understand. I really do. I'm actually surprised I blew up like I did. "I-I'm sorry. I didn't realize that it has taken this much of a toll on you. I mean, you have bags underneath your eyes as if you haven't slept in days. Your skin is pale as crap. Your hair looks like a rats nest, you should go home and get some rest. It might help.

••••••

The drive home was lonely, remembering, trying to think of all the ways I could of been there for him, to prevent this from happening. I don't blame him though, he lost all he had left of his family. Once I reach home I make myself some coffee and sit on my patio outside, staring at the stars with a blank mind.
