Earlan Cove POV.

"Honeybun, wake up!"My mom cooed, waking me from my sleep.

I rubbed my eyes.

"Is today the day?"I asked excitingly like I was a 6 year old.

She laughed.

"Yes Earlan, today is the reaping."She smiled.

"I knew that I was gonna get picked to volunteer."I said proudly.

She pinched my cheek.

"Of course."

"Now,we better get down to breakfast,I say your dad is more excited than you!"She chided.

I ran down the stairs into the kitchen,my mom behind.

"There's my boy!"My dad yelled when he saw me.

"Morning pops."I said cheerfully.

"Honey, could you run to the bakery and grab some more strawberry jelly?"My mom asked my dad.

"Have the boy do it."He grumbled, picking up the newspaper called Capitol Daily.

My mom looked at me.

"Fine,I'll go."I groaned.

She smiled.

"Here's the money for it sweetheart."She gave 6 dollars.

"I'll be back soon."I promised.

"Good, because your stylist is coming at 9:00."She reminded me.

"9:00,right."I repeated.

With a final wave,I went through our front door.

I stopped and smelled the pink petunias that were growing at the front of are yard.

They smelled lovely.

I picked one, knowing if I gave it to the bakers daughter I'd get a discount.

"Hey man!"A voice called.

I spun around,gripping my flower.

My grip loostened when I saw who it was.

Marcel,my best friend was right there.

"Hey."I nodded back.

We walked in silence for a little bit.

"Dude,it's so not fair that you get to win!"Marcel suddenly complained.

I grinned.

"Are you still mad that the trainers picked me?"I teased.

He blushed a little.

"No,it's just I thought I had it in the bag."He groaned.

"Sorry man."I apologized,shrugging my shoulders.

"Whatever."He muttered.

"What's the flower for dude?"He asked, pointing to the petunia.

"The bakers daughter,I get money off."I said casually.

"Flirt."He accused me.

"Well,I can't help it,girls are naturally attracted to me."I said modestly.

Finally we were at the bakers.

"Catch up with me at the reaping."He said.

"Yeah,of course."I replied.

Then I walked into the bakery.

Luckily for me the bakers daughter was manning the front desk.
