It's two days later, and Madame Pomfry finally decided to let me go. I didn't even need to stay there in the first place- I can take care of myself fine. 'No you can't,' a voice says in my head. 'You would have died if Harry hadn't rescued you.' 'He didn't rescue me, he just- never mind.'

I go to the common room, and immediately everybody starts congratulating me and patting me on the back.

"Wait- hold up. What did I do?"

"You turned down Potter," Blaise says, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "I wish I could've seen the look on his face!" Suddenly, everything comes crashing down. No! No this could not be happening! He's going to hate me even more now!

"I-I have to go," I splutter, rushing out of the room. I sprint up to the fat lady portrait.

"Password!" She says.

"I don't know the password I-"

"If you don't know the password you can't come in."

"Listen! I need to-" A piercing shriek interrupts me as the fat lady starts singing. I shove my hands over my ears. The portrait swings to the side, and Granger steps out.

"Listen, Lady. How in hell are we meant to think when you keep screeching every five minutes." She looks at me. "Malfoy," she mutters. "What are you doing here?"

"I'm looking for Har- Potter. Where is he?"

"I have no idea. I haven't seen him all day."

"What do you mean?"

"He came in the day before yesterday and didn't say a word, he just ran up to his room. I was worried of course, so was Ron, but we didn't want to invade his privacy and whatnot." I scoff. Who says whatnot? She glares at me, and I wave at her to continue. "He didn't come out yesterday either, so this morning Ron went to check on him and he was gone. We're trying to find him now actually, so if you could piss off that'd be great." She clambers back inside the portrait hole.

Harry is gone! And it's my fault. I want to scream. I want to scream and cry and melt. I run as fast as I can out of the castle and into the Forbidden Forest. About a quarter of a mile in, I lean against a tree and sink down to the floor. I put my face in my hands and let the first year fall.

Before long I'm sobbing, silent tears pouring down my face. I scream, sending a few birds flying into the air.

I hear a footstep and a twig snapping and I jolt up abruptly, wiping the tears away.

"Wh-whose there?" I say, pulling out my wand.

"Relax, Draco," an oh so familiar voice says, stepping out from behind the trees. "It's me."
