It was finally time to meet my mother. I wasn't sure if I was excited or nervous. I guess a little bit of both.
It was already the middle of February and I had been busy with school work and college preparation. Saying I was stressed was me being mild. I hadn't been hanging out with anyone except Emmy, Alice and Zoe a few times. I hadn't seen Aiden since New Years, except for quick glances at school. I missed hanging out with him. There was no reason to hide it, from myself at least.
Every time I saw him in school my heart would leap and I would feel happier and better, and all I wanted to do was to run to him and give him a hug.
I obviously didn't do it.
Anyways, I hadn't told anyone about my plan to meet with my 'dead' mother. I felt bad for lying to dad, but the words just couldn't leave my mouth. I wanted to tell someone, but I just didn't know who to tell. Emmy already knew my mother was alive, but we hadn't talked more about it since I first found out.
I told them I was heading out on a road trip with Alice. Alice was going on a weekend trip with her parents to meet some family members, so I took that as the perfect opportunity as a cover story. I felt like I was going on a mission.
I was now just hoping no one would talk to Alice.
The drive to my mother's apartment took two hours, although it felt more like five. I was going to meet my mother, who I though had died in a car accident. How weird is that? Who wouldn't be nervous?!
It was surreal. I was meeting someone I thought was dead..
I parked the car in front of the apartment and sat silent, staring at the apartments in front of me. I wasn't sure if I wanted to laugh or cry. Possibly both.
After a couple of minutes I took a deep breath and opened the door and stepped out. I pushed the car closed a little to hard, making an older couple stare at me before I smiled apologetically and walked away towards the entrance.
The door had a list of names and I quickly found my moms last name. Only it wasn't just hers, but another last name too. I frowned. She hadn't told me she had a roommate.
I pushed he button, deciding not to drag the meeting out longer than I had already done. I pulled my purse onto my shoulder so it sat better. Not long after a voice, who I recognised to be my moms, sounded.
"Hello?"
I cleared my throat and said hello back.
"Avia?" She sounded surprised. Maybe she didn't think I would show.
"Eh, yeah, hi."
"I'm so happy you came!" She said. "Pleas come in." Then the buzzer sounded and I opened the door. I didn't step inside at first, I had to take a deep breath and exhale before I forced my feet to walk in.
The door closed behind me and I looked at the stairs leading up. I knew she lived on the top floor, but I now understood that you could call it a penthouse. It was a rich neighbourhood, that was pretty clear. The apartment complex looked fancy, and the inside looked even more fancy.
I walked towards the elevator, but stopped and took the stairs instead. I had to drag it out; I wasn't mentally ready yet.
It took me a couple of minutes before I reached the top. When I finally did I felt I had a heavy breath and made a mental note to myself that I had to start working out more.
Then I knocked on the door and it took a few seconds before I could hear someone opening the lock. I took a deep breath and smiled a small smile to look presentable. But when I saw her I couldn't keep the smile up.
