After school I did exactly what Zaire told me to do I went to the back of the gym and waited for him there, as soon as I looked down at my watch I heard Zaire pull up, hmmm right on the dot, this nigga trying to be funny? He waved me toward his car and I went right into the passenger seat.

"So what you think?"

"What do I think about what?"

"My ride yo."

"Oh you mean yo car? I mean it’s cool, what am I supposed to say?"

"So I’m guessing you don't pay attention to cars huh."

"No I’m gay I don't have to."

"Ha-ha you a funny nigga you know that right."

"So I’ve been told..., so where you taking me?"

"It's a surprise."

"I don't like surprises, so where you taking me?"

"Damn boy why you always got to argue with me, just go with the flow my nigga Ha-ha."

"I wouldn't have to argue with you if you just did what i say."

"Ha-ha so you trying to control me now?"

"Ain't nobody trying..."

"Ooooo feisty ain't we?"

"Boy just drive."

"So how you got the name Tye anyway?"

"It's my daddy name...but I really hate that i have to carry his name with me everywhere I go."

"Why that's yo pops."

"No he just a sperm donor."

"What he aint around or something?"

"I wish he wasn't, the problem is that he is around and I got to look at his face every day."

"Well then why you don't like him?"

"I don't feel like talking about it, How you got the name Zaire that shit ugly."

He got real mad when I said that, I like it when he get mad his face get all cringed up like he a baby or something.

"Shit I don’t know what the fuck you smoking but my name cute, and plus Zaire means river and the river is strong."

"It ain't strong if that shit is polluted with baby diapers and bottles and soda cans."

"Oh so you think you funny now huh."

"I mean you were the one that said I was baby."

He looked at me and winked.

"I like it when you call me baby."

I just sat in my seat and started blushing, damn this boy is too fine, we finally stopped somewhere in the middle of an alley i looked to the side of me and i only saw one door.

"Nigga what the fuck is this, where are we?"

"Stop complaining and just get out the car."

To my surprise i did just as he told me, He grabbed my hand and led me straight insid the place, even though on the outside this place looked disgusting on the inside it was gorgeous it was a nice quiet and serene place it was very drak inside though but it fit the atmosphere, the place and table and chairs for people to sit and drink at and it had sofas for people to just chill and it had a stage with a little soulful band and a microphone in the middle of the stage, i suddenly knew what this was it was a open mic place that was kind of kept secret, which i actually liked, Zaire led me to a table in the front where there was already food set for us and drinks.

"Zaire you did all this for me."

"Told you it was a surprise, you like?"

"I love it."

I gave him a kiss on the cheek, and to my surprise he didn't pull back, none of the people here knew me and Zaire so it didn’t matter. The stage lit up and a little short white man came up and started talking.

"Ok you guys we got a special surprise perfomance for yall tonight, all the way from Brooklyn we got singing for us is Tye St. Louis."

"Tye who?!!!!!!!, Zaire what did you do?"

"I know how much you like to sing so i set it up for you to go and do ya thing."

"I don't sing in front of people, and besides I don’t know what to sing."

"Don't worry the band already picked out a song for you now go on baby make me proud."

I got up and walked on the stage and looked at the band.

"So what am I singing?"

"You know Brandy Have you ever?”

"Yes..."

"Well then sing it ha-ha."

I turned around and grabbed the microphone shaking, i closed my eyes and began singing as soon as the band started playing and to my surprise once I started signing i felt so comfortable and just let the song flow.
