For the past two days Chara had successfully dodged her mother, not revealing her presence. And luckily her brother didn't give her away. Now the girl was standing in the back yard of the large house in the Surface. The pocket knife she kept on a chain around her neck was out and opened. She wasn't doing anything with it other than staring at it.
"Boo!" A boys voice says, she jumps, and turns around, holding the knife out inches from this boy's chest.
"Don't scare me again, or I'll stab you." Chara says angrily.
"If you were going to stab me is be dead already." He says smirking, she sighs and really looks at him, than frowns.
"Oh, it's you again." Chara says annoyed, lowering the knife.
"Yeah, it's me again." The boy says shrugging, his appearance was as it always was, a dark blue shirt, jeans with a few homes in them, his dark brown hair unbrushed, and his blue eyes shining in the afternoon sun.
"Why are you here?" Chara asks, not turning so not to look at him any more. Every time line he showed up in he made Frisk help him and his family. Just so he didn't turn to a life of crime or something. Chara knew the story, but didn't care to remember it.
"Because Frisk and I are friends and she invited me here." He says smirking, she sighs shaking her head.
"Anything else?" Chara asks closing up the blade and putting the chain back around her neck.
"No, not really." He says, but doesn't turn to leave.
"Than, good bye." She says sternly,
"Hello." He says smiling.
Chara turned to look back at him. "Why don't you go back inside and hang out with your friends. Instead of me." she says, he shrugs.
"Because my friend has multiple other friends. You seem to have yourself and that knife." He says sitting down in the grass.
"And I am very happy alone." She says crossing her arms, plopping next to him.
"Uh huh, sure," he says chuckling.
Chara glares at him pulling at the chain around her neck. He sighs shaking his head.
"Are you just gonna stare at me Austin? Or are you going to do something else?" Chara asks sharply, he smiles.
"Why can't I look at you, it's nice not looking through you." He says smirking.
"I liked it when I could just disappear." Chara says smiling softly.
"You are so odd, you know that?" Austin says, her smile falls quickly and she looks at him.
"How so?" She asks frowning, he smirks.
"You've got those bright eyes, hair, and cheeks, and such a dark mind to go with. Frisk has such dark eyes, and hair, and such a bright mind to go with it. You two are like total opposites." He says thoughtfully.
"Thank you, Austin. As I have never thought that before. Nope. Never in all the thousand or so years in total that I've lived has the thought of how Frisk and I are like a ying yang come to mind. Thank you so much for pointing that out." Chara says emotionless, staring at Austin.
"Okay, I get it. Just about anything I say about you will be old news." He says holding out his left hand over her staring eyes, she slaps his hand down.
"What do you mean just about? You know how much time I've had alone as a ghost going unseen in the world? A lot, I've thought through everything about myself." Chara says in a very mater of fact tone.
"There are some things people can't see about themselves... Even if they look in a mirror." He says smiling, she tilts her head.
"What are you talking about?" She asks confused, he smiles.
"Well you see yourself through your own eyes of opinion. I see you through mine. Which changes the way you look. Does that make sense?" He asks speaking slowly, she shakes her head.
"No, I don't think it does..." She says thinking the words over.
"Okay, well like you see me as an annoying human who's determined and keeps finding you and Frisk. While Frisk sees me as a friend who she can share stories with without judgement." He says, she nods slightly.
"Oh... I guess that makes sense.. How do you see me?" She asks her voice now soft, almost a whisper.
"Me? I see you as a lost little girl who needs someone to throw a life saver out to." He says smiling, she hits his arm.
"I am not that weak." She says angrily.
"I didn't say you were weak. Only lost, in need of help. Needing help isn't a weakness." He says, standing up.
"Where are you going?" she asks, her voice even quieter than before.
"Oh, I should probably get back to Frisk and Asriel." He says waving and walking inside the house.
Chara did get up, or move for the most part. She just thought, thought over all his words. In her mind she imagined Austin, the determined boy who kept coming back, just at that. An annoying determined boy who threatened to take control. This scared Chara more than anything else really. Someone who could reset other than her and a Frisk. Especially someone as dangerous as Austin. He had proven in previous time lines how he was able to kill, and able to get to LV 10. That was enough to scare Chara, adding the determination to that power to kill, you had another human like her. She feared herself. She wanted to fix things. And she feared Austin would undo the thin thread she used to sew the life she had together.
