When I woke up, I was in a place I didn't recognize. It was almost all black with an occasional purple or green light flying by. I looked to my right, then to my left, and took a step forward. As my foot hit the ground, the scenery changed. I was in my old backyard!"Mom! Dad!" I yelled. "Keegan! Julie!" I called to my cats. "You're alive!"
Everyone in my house, even my beloved cats, had been killed and my house had been torched after I had been chosen to join the Star Seekers and the Sky Hunters found out.
I ran to the door. When I tried to open it, the handle just slipped through my hand, like a mirage. Then, the door opened. From the inside.
"Mom! I'm going to climb my tree!" Yelled a figure as it ran right through me.
"Okay, Katherine. Don't fall!"
I recognized those voices. I recognized that name. I recognized that girl running. I recognized those words. I recognized this scene. This was the moment right before I was called to join the Star Seekers! I was brought back to the past! I held back waves of tears and just decided to watch it as it played out.
"Geez, Mom worries too much! What's her problem?" the old me said as "I" ran to my treehouse. I decided to follow myself up the ladder. As I climbed, I wished I had never said those things about my mom. That was the last time I ever saw her. I didn't know what was coming in the next few minutes.
"Hmm... What shall I do today?" I asked myself, as I happily bounced around the treehouse. I finally settled on the corner that had all my favorite comic books and manga. I opened the manga I had started the day before and began reading.
It was coming soon.
When I finished my chapter, I got up and started doodling at my art desk.
It was drawing nearer.
I finished my sketch and walked over to my colored pencils that had been moved to my shelf by my mom the last time she came in my treehouse to clean.
It was right about now.
As I reached for my colored pencils, the floor shook. The walls violently rattled. The ceiling shuddered. Art supplies flew off my desk. Knickknacks catapulted off my hundreds of shelves. Many things broke. The force was so great, I, a very stable person, was blown to my feet. My eyes pulsed with fear and my entire body trembled.
"EARTHQUAKE!!" my past self screamed.
It was no earthquake.
Unexpectedly, the sky turned red. I ran to the window in my treehouse and looked up in horror. This time, I decided to time it. Five seconds exactly till it turned blue again.
All of a sudden, a pale blue ball of light appeared in the center of my treehouse. I whipped my head around when I felt the strong gusts of wind it was releasing. Before I knew what was happening, I was picked up by some sort of unseen force and dragged into the light. I screamed, but no one heard me. As my past self disappeared into the light, I was brought along with it. As the older me panicked, I stayed completely calm. A small tear ran down my cheek. This was the beginning of a life that ruined my past, simple, great life.
Both of us landed in a room that was very large and very dark with the exception of a few red, white, and green lights from assorted pieces of unfamiliar machinery. I sensed no life until a tall, thin man walked up to me.
"Welcome to Headquarters, Katherine."
