Hello, readers! My name is Quinn (KT) and you are about to read my novel Forks.
The idea for Forks actually came to me in a dream I had in fifth grade. With some tweaking done, it morphed into a novel. I appreciate you taking the time to read Forks and hope you enjoy it.
I always love to know what readers think so don't be scared to write a comment!
It might be a while before you actually get to read anything. For this novel, I plan on releasing it in three parts. And, I will be doing multiple drafts. So please, be patient. Thank you!
Here's some things you should know about Forks:
1. The title Forks came from the idea that the people in this dystopian world feed off fear and adrenaline. Fear is their food and adrenaline is their meal. So the title comes from the idea of feeding.
2. The book takes place somewhere around the year 2319 but it is never specified.
3. The Nahual people are actually a Mesoamerican folk legend. The Nahual (or Nagual) are humans that have the ability to either spiritually or physically shift into an animal, usually a jaguar or puma.
4. Corajoso, which is the country where Thea lives, is also a Portuguese word for fearless. The citizens feed off fear but they have never truly felt what real fear feels like. So really, they are devoid of fear and they are fear-less.
5. The society Thea lives in is unlike those from Divergent or The Hunger Games. Unlike the controlling government of these dystopian worlds, the Corajoso government creates and enforces laws very strictly but not harshly. The citizens are happy and follow rules. The world is more eco-friendly, more fair (class-wise) and more controlled. The government is doing nothing wrong to the people. The people do nothing wrong to the government. The world that Thea lives in is actually quite peaceful. Except for the feeding of fear part.
6. The classes of Corajoso society aren't rich, average, poor. They're categorized more by your Fear Level. During Adrenaline Sessions and Apprehension Tests, you are scored and ranked. The higher your rank, the "richer" you are. Your Fear Level does help determine how wealthy you are but people don't think of you as upper class because of how much money you have but rather what your Fear Level is. There are only a few select super wealthy families in each city but mostly, everyone is around the same class or wealthiness.
7. Some technologies of Corajoso are:
• Virtual Surrounding Games or VSG - which is a center in which holographic images play out in front of a contender. The player has to fight off these images until the last kill of the game. This helps determine one's Fear Level.
• Adrenaline Centers - are like the VSG. But instead of holograms, a player must fight off real competition. Of course, players are suited up in armor so no serious injuries or deaths occur but it is much more real and dangerous than the VSG. Adrenaline Centers are somewhat of training centers while VSG are more for fun.
• Glass Pages - are like iPads or tablets but much more advanced. A regular sized Glass Page is a device about the size of a book. It is about 8 by 5 inches and is only about 4.5 mm thin. It works like an iPad or iPhone would but also has a hologram feature where a holographic image can pop up out of a lens at the side of the Page.
• Glass Mini's - are exactly like the Glass Page but used as a phone. Like a smart phone in the future. Very hi-tech and advanced.
• Glass Frames - are also just like the Glass Page and Glass Mini but is a laptop or computer. All of these products [Glass Page, Glass Mini, Glass Frame] are all products created by Glass Industries founded and run by Miriam Glass.
• Apprehension Tests - a test to register your body and mind under certain circumstances of fear, adrenaline, and anxiety. Helps rank your Fear Level.8. Creating Forks, I took a lot of notes and did a lot of planning. Writing multiple drafts, I wanted it to be my best novel yet.
9. In my original dream for this idea, it was modern day time and it wasn't about fear. The dream was that I went on a field trip to an old, creepy house where my classmates and I stuck our feet in water around the edges of a pool. An eel was released into the water and we had to lift our legs out of the water to avoid them being eaten by the eel.
10. It took me so long to figure out what I wanted to write about.
Thanks again and I'll send out a message when I'm getting ready to publish the first part! xox ~ KT
