Chapter Eleven
Kimberley sat down behind a table and kept an eye on Cheryl, who was currently chatting to a scared looking
fella. Suddenly, without even realizing, Kim noticed that the boy who had greeted her had sat down next to her.
" Hey Mike." She said out of politeness. " So Kimberley, when will we have dinner?" Mike asked with a smile.
" How about never." Kim replied as she considered Mike more as an annoying friend, but the boy wanted more.
" I've waited for dinner with you for so long and...." Mike was interrupted by Cheryl who sat next to Kimberley.
" Thank god." Kim said as she had a reason to ignore the boy now. " You have great friends, they told me I was a
weirdo, that's a good thing, right?" Cheryl said. " Depends on the perspective." Kim replied as she didn't want to
hurt Cheryl's feelings. An older man with a fancy Armani suit stepped on the stage and prepared himself for a
speech. " We have gathered here to celebrate the success of his years interns." He spoke. " Why is he talking so
loud?" Asked Cheryl. " He's talking in to a microphone so everyone could hear him." Kim replied. " And why are we
listening to him?" Cheryl asked again. " Because he's the head of the medical school I go to." Kimberley
answered. " Well i don't go there so i don't have to listen." Cheryl cheerfully said as she got up and started
repeating everything the man said on stage. " Can i have that knife over there?" Asked Kim from Mike. " What are
you gonna do with a knife?" Mike curiously asked. " Oh nothing much, just kill myself before someone else does."
Kim said with a sarcastic smile as she put her head on the table and tried not to listen what Cheryl was doing
next to her. " Young lady, what is your problem?" Asked the man on stage as she noticed Cheryl gesturing and
repeating him. " Well my problem is that you're kinda boring." Cheryl shouted. Everyone in the room gasped for
air as Cheryl clearly had no respect. " Would you like to give a speech then?" Asked the man. " Well if I did, I'd do
it better than you." Cheryl replied. " Well come up here then." She was told and Cheryl followed the order,
leaving Kimberley grabbing after her. " Do you any good funeral services?" Asked Kim from Mike as she was sure
that Cheryl's speech would end her life. Cheryl stepped on stage with all lights being focused on her. She
stepped behind the microphone and as guessed, she had to do something embarrassing. "
Testing...testing....CAN YOU HEAR ME?" Cheryl screamed, making everyone cover their ears. Kimberley was in a
state where she banged her head against the table, praying to wake up from this nightmare as Cheryl continued.
Cheryl laughed on stage " That's what people say when they start talking in these things, right? I saw it on TV."
She smartly explained. Kimberley started writing her goodbye letter. " I am here thanks to a very special person.
She took me in and cared for me and that is a thing that I will forever be grateful for. I didn't know the world at
all and she has taught me so much. She's like a mother to me. That's a metaphor because that's not physically
possible because she is so young and I'm nearly her age and it would be.......Well anyway, I just wanted to thank
her in front of a lot of people so she would know how much she means to me. And that person is......" Cheryl
spoke with a few traces of dumbness in her speech. " Don't say my name, don't say my name." Prayed Kimberley
quietly. " Kimberley." Announced Cheryl on the stage. " Me?" Shouted a girl from the crowd. " Who are you?"
Asked Cheryl as the girls was a total stranger to her. " I'm Kimberley." The girl replied.
" There's about four Kimberley's in here, which one do you mean?" Shouted someone from the room, explaining
the situation, which was a cue for the real Kim to hide under a table. " Emm.....the one who's butt is sticking out
from under the table." Cheryl smartly said as she finally noticed where her pal was. Suddenly, everyone's eyes
were turned on Kim's bum that was hectically waving around, because Kim got stuck under the table and couldn't
get out. As soon as she managed to pull her head out, everyone started clapping. " Kim was blushing as Cheryl
came back to their table at the sound of the male students in the room screaming. " Well that was quite a
speech, lass." Said the old man who returned to the stage. " Who you calling lass?" Cheryl said angrily as she
thought it meant something bad. " Cheryl, sit down." Commanded Kimberley before Chez could do any more
harm.
A few minutes later, the table filled with people, who were curious about Cheryl's story. She was having fun
explaining her situation and she felt happy that people were interested in her. Mike felt the need for attention
and started speaking. " Do you know what happened yesterday in the hospital? I walked down the stairs and I
slipped. Then i had a word with he cleaner for leaving no sign out and...." Mike spoke importantly until Cheryl
interrupted her. " Are you seriously this boring?" Cheryl asked. " Excuse me little lady, haven't your parents told
you that it's rude to interrupt people?" Mike asked as he was insulted. " Excuse me little dude thingy, haven't
your parents told you that it is rude to tell stories so boring that even the owner of the Bed Rull company would
fall asleep?" Cheryl asked in return. " Red Bull." Corrected Kimberley, who was on the edge of a break down and
left the table to get some fresh air, not noticing that Cheryl was following her. " Why did I bring her? What the
hell was I thinking?" Asked Kim loudly as bringing Cheryl had brought nothing good. Having heard that, Cheryl
lowered her head in disappointment and quietly left.
