So it would seem that when Slender said "one of his proxies," he didn't mean me. Which is absolutely outrageous.
"Slenderman!" I shouted, waving my arms to get his attention. "You have to let me go! I'm the only one who should. Toby doesn't even know the guy."
"Yes, that may be true but I have still decided-"
"What you decided is a load of bull! Slenderman, you're being ridiculous. Why aren't you letting me go? I was pretty sure from the beginning that it was supposed to be me. After all, I am the main chara- I mean, the most important one here."
"What was he gonna say?" Hoodie asked, though it was one of those questions that are asked without expecting a response.
"Falin, I figured by now you should know exactly why I am not allowing you to go. The girl-"
I stopped and Slender stopped too. He turned to me and faced me fully. "Is it because of her name and the way she looks that you aren't allowing me to go?"
"Falin, I do not think it would be wise for you to go somewhere with her after the attack you just had. From what you have told me, she has some similarities with her. I do not wish to place my proxies in any unnecessary danger. It would be troublesome to replace you."
My hands clenched into fists. "Slenderman, I know you feel this to be right but if you don't let me go, I will find some way to go on my own. I mean it."
Slender doesn't breath in the same way we do but I could have sworn I heard a sigh come from him. "Falin, I wish you would not be so difficult." He paused. "Fine. I will let you go. But do not expect me to be so lenient the next time. I am only doing this because I know Jeff can be hard to handle even for those who know him. Start getting ready. You and the girl leave in the morning."
I nodded, glad he accepted it but in no mood to celebrate. Slender may be right; it may be completely stupid of me to insist on going on this rescue mission but I knew it had to be me. I was the one who knew Jeff the best and I was the one who made the damn necklace. Plus none of the proxies has shown an ounce of care for this at all. Sure, they would have gotten the mission done since they were proxies, but they wouldn't have been able to handle Jeff. I am the only one to do this.
Slender looked to the room. "I recommend talking with the girl now. Be sure to leave as soon as there is enough light to see. I will not be here to guide you." I looked up at him in shock. "I will be at the trees guiding the others in and giving them the shots of magic. It would seem you were indeed able to make the trees so that only those with my magic will be able to go through. Very good, Falin."
Although I was thankful for the compliment, I was still trying to process the fact that Slender wouldn't be there to see me off on the mission. Slender always saw us off on our missions. It was a known fact that Slender saw all of the proxies off on their missions. Even if they didn't live with him, we were supposed to come to him whenever he called, wherein he would then give us the mission and be there to watch us head off for our next one.
"Oh," I said quietly.
"Falin," He said and put a hand on my shoulder. "I know it has become sort of a tradition for me to see you off for your missions, but I must attend to this first. It is dangerous to have so many of us in one small place. I must get them in between the trees as soon as possible. Surely you of all people must understand that moving them is my first priority."
I nodded slightly, hanging my head in the process. "I understand."
"Good. I will get onto that now. Don't you have a girl to be talking to?"
