A piercing high screech awoke Alicia, who jumped in the car seat, eyes flickering around, trying to find the source of the sound, looking out in the pitch-dark night, only to see nothing but red dust gently hitting the windshield. Her eyes, starring intensely outside the car, trying to make her eyes get used to the darkness, and dim light from the car.
"Looking at anything interesting?" a voice sounded to her left, making her give a quick glare over at the voice.
He was still there, despite the fact that Alicia had hoped in her dreams that he would have left her alone to die in the dessert.
"Of course. I'm not looking at you." Alicia gently stretched her arms out from her body, smiling softly to herself, as she heard a few crack from the movement. Her voice hadn't improved, it was worse now, as she had just been sleeping.
She tiredly looked over at him; sleep still in her eyes, as she took in a deep breath.
The smell was awful. A mix between cheap oil, diesel and vomit.
She quickly released the awful air from her lungs, and started coughing.
"You surviving over there?" a laugh roamed the car; causing Alicia to instantly get into a bad mood. Anger building up inside her, causing a warm splotch to form at her wrist, speeding up her pulse and making her whole body feel like it was on fire.
"Why should I tell you? You still haven't told me your name, and..." a piercing screech stopped Alicia, causing her to turn in her seat, facing over towards the man. Her seatbelt digging deep into the delicate skin around her neck.
"And what the hell is that noise?" she pulled the seatbelt away from her neck, not caring about the red, itching mark that had already formed.
"Somethings wrong with the car." He rested his elbow against the window, steering with one hand, slightly speeding up a bit more, the noise coming back.
"And what? You didn't think it would be a good idea to get back to the damn road and get it checked?" Alicia rolled her eyes, slowly letting her anger go. Still building it up inside herself.
"No. That would be stupid. The cops are everywhere, they would find us as soon as we stepped out of the car, besides I have friends."
"Are they dessert wolfs or something? Because no human with at least two brain cells would know not to befriend you or living in the middle of nowhere!" anger taking control, letting every word get more poisoned, as they left her lips.
"Why do you think my friends are dessert wolfs?" he frowned, looking over at her with confused puppy eyes.
"Shut it, Nitwit." Alicia gently placed her hand over Nitwit's mouth, while indicating for him to stay silent.
She sunk back into the car seat, pressing her hand harder against his mouth.
Sitting in silent for a few minutes, until she removed her hand, blinking slightly, trying to stay awake, as sleepiness sneaked up on her again.
"When will we be there?" she yawned quietly, sitting uncomfortably in the seat, hugging herself.
"In the morning. Just sleep again." He had a stern look on his face, as he looked into the dessert.
"Oka'." She turned her body towards him, resting her head on his seat. A position, that looked awful.
"And my name isn't Nitwit you idiot." He sighed, looking over at her a last time. Seeing her lips slightly part, and drool starting to roll down her chin.
