At 1:15 a.m I sit on my bed doing homework seeing as I couldn't get Ethan out of my mind. Like, why did he care about my problems so much? Why did his eyes change colour all the time? How come no one else noticed? I groan in frustration as my mind wanders off again.

I finally decide to give up on homework. I guess there is something strange about Ethan, but why was I the only one who'd noticed? I wanted to find out what it was, and that meant staying by his side.

--

"Hey!" I squirm as I feel a piece of scrunched up paper being thrown at the back of my head during my history lesson. I turn around to see Ethan looking at me, smirking. I pick up the note from the floor and read it.

You free after school?

I write a reply on the other side and throw it back to him.

After class Ethan runs to catch up with me.

"So meet me in the car park, then?" he says, eyes glowing in the same hazel swirl.

"Yep. What are we gonna do?"

"Surprise." He winks at me and I feel heat creeping up my neck. "It's cute when you do that."

"Do what?" I ask, trying to hide my face in my hands.

"Blush."

"I'm not blushing!" I argue, even though we both know I was.

"Sure thing." He winks again and I roll my eyes at him, scoffing in mock anger.

We're walking down the corridor together, chatting and laughing when I see Harry, Jack Marrow's friend come over to us.

"Hey, Ashlyn." He smiles, revealing two massive dimples on both his cheeks. "So, you still up for Saturday?"

I look over at Ethan and swear I see the red in his eyes again, and then turn back to Harry.

"Yep, but it's one date. It doesn't mean anything."

"Got it." Harry smirks and Ethan seems to flash with anger.

"She said it doesn't fuçking mean anything, Henry!" he clarifies, glaring at Harry.

"I-It's Harry," he stutters.

Ethan rolls his eyes at him, grabbing my wrist and pulling me away. He finally lets go once Harry's out of sight. I rub my wrist and see a red mark forming from where it was held so tight.

"Ethan, what's up with you?" I ask him in a low voice. "I can handle myself. Harry was probably just joking."

"What if he wasn't?" Ethan's eyes go a purple-grey colour.

"You shouldn't worry about me."

Ethan opens his mouth as though to say something but takes a deep breath, closing it again. "Let's just go."
