Hollypaw carefully lifted her paws from the cobweb she had just pressured into place. “Alright Sandstorm, remember to come back tomorrow and get a new polituce for your scratches.” She turned to her sister and began checking her fur. “You sure did get into the battle didn't you? I heard some of the other warriors grumbling about how you and that apprentice kept taunting one another....” She paused and looked in her sister’s eye. There was a mixture of pain and sadness in their green depths and she could tell there was a lot on Flickerheart’s mind.
Hollypaw playfully flicked the tip of the she-cat’s ear with her fluffy black tail. “Lighten up!” She frowned, “Well, at least you aren’t scratched that bad. Come over here, I’ll fix up your wounds.”
As she pressed marigold and cobweb into the large gash on her sister’s back, she pondered over what could have extinguished her flamboyant sibling’s spark.
“You mousebrained fool!” Hollypaw laid her ears back as Jayfeather scorned her. During the battle, Leafpool and him had been returning from the half moon gathering. She knew that she shouldn't have gone into the battle with the warriors, but what else could she do? Send them into battle then make them walk all the way back to camp as they lost precious blood?
“You know Jayfeather, you’re only a moon older than me. Besides your not my mentor, Leafpool is, so you have no right to boss me around like some... some... needy kit!!” Hollypaw stood tall and tried to enlarge her appearance by puffing out her chest, forcing her fur to stand on end, and waving her tall in fury.
Jayfeather glared at her blindly and spoke words of pure hatred “Well, which of use has our full medicine cat name, hmm?”
There was a rustle at the entrance to the den and both cats turned to see Shadepaw standing awkwardly. “Um, I need some new cobweb for my shoulder...” Hollypaw immediately moved to help him, but Jayfeather slapped his tail across her puffed out chest. “Not you, I’ll handle this, you can go collect some tansy.”
As she waded through the bramble thicket, Hollypaw began to wonder about her prophecy. What did Featherwhisker mean? What am I supposed to do? She thought about telling Leafpool or maybe even Firestar, but she decided against it for fear they would think her foolish.
She quickly picked up the herbs she had gathered and padded back to camp, she thought she could track Flickerheart down and talk to her about it. Maybe I’ll even redress her wounds while I’m at it, kill two robins with one swipe.
