"So, how was your first class?" Natalie asks me, as I fish through my bag for my lunchbox, so that I can grab some food for recess.
"Well, all I'm going to say is that the seating plan thing is totally bullshit. I'm next to Miles Costello!"
"Oh, damn. That hair flick he does, who does he think he's try to impress?"
"Not me, that's for sure. He's a gigantic ass, and now I don't like Legals."
As I say that, Miles walks past me with two of his 'girl friends': Brittany and Alexis. All he does is death stare me, so I do the same back.
Once I've got a packet of chips and a muesli bar in my hands, I walk out of the locker shed with Natalie to meet Spencer and Becky already at one of the many tables centred between the Year 11 Locker Shed and Building. Most of the other tables are filled with other classmates of ours, from the year level.
"Guys, guess what happened to Spencer in Ag!" Spencer exclaims to greet us, before she licks the spoon she just dipped in her strawberry yogurt. "Bec was texting that kid she had her Summer fling with!"
"Weren't you meant to be working in Ag?" Natalie asks Becky, with a mock stern expression on her face.
"Of course, but ain't nobody got time for that," Becky laughs.
"Plus, when Miss Malory is your teacher..." Spencer defends Becky.
"Oh, Miss Malory. She doesn't know anything," Becky adds.
"Well, let's be fair," I defend my 'beloved' Year Seven teacher. "Miss Malory can teach Chem. She just can't teach you Ag, because you're just a terrible student," I giggle.
"Yeah, I'm not going to lie. That makes total sense," Spencer laughs, elbowing Becky.
Becky pulls out her phone from her pocket and punches in her passcode.
"I just came to have a good time and I'm honestly feeling so attacked right now."
The four of us simultaneously giggle hysterically. It's a Tumblr reference if you don't understand.
"So, we have Drama next period, Maice and Bec," Spencer declares.
"No drama for Natalie," Natalie says, pretending to be hurt. "Physics for Natalie."
"Shut up, nerd," Becky jokes, as she taps away madly on her phone.
"Is this the boyfriend?" Spencer quizzes Becky, trying to get a glimpse of Becky's phone screen.
Becky's cheeks grow a bright red as she turns away from Spencer, her phone screen also successfully away from Spencer's vision.
"Maybe," Becky giggles.
"Aww, she's blushing," Spencer laughs.
Natalie and I join in on the laughter, too.
"What even is his name, Bec?" I ask.
"I'm not telling y'all. You'll just stalk him on FaceBook!"
"Probably," Spencer admits, before laughing. "But that's no reason not to tell us who he is."
Becky sighs. "Fine. His name is Toby Tompkins. Google him. Stalk him on FaceBook. Whatever. Just don't message him anything weird, because I know you lot."
The four of us all giggle again.
"Toby Tompkins," I repeat. "Write that alliteration somewhere, one of you, please."
"Why bother? All we need to do is find Becky's FaceBook page that's probably covered in corny messages from the guy. 'Oh, Becky. I had such a fun time this Summer. Why did you have to leave?'. 'Kisses from my way, Becky beautiful'. Heart emojis. 'Good morning.' More heart emojis," Spencer laughs hysterically.
