* Chapter 4 - He's Alright *

As I walk into my Legals classroom, I notice that the majority of the seats are already filled-with loudly chattering sutdents. But both Miles and mine are empty.

I spot Miles sitting next to Jaimie Webster and roll my eyes.

Jaimie is pretty cool in most people's eyes, but I just don't see it.

At least she isn't one of Miles's bitches...yet.

"Seating plan, Miles," I remind him, with a grin, as I brush past him, heading to my seat.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever," he replies dopily, picking up his books and following my lead.

"Mate," Lily calls from across the classroom. "Don't want to cock-block you or anything, but you're supposed to be sitting next to me."

I roll my eyes.

Miles playfully sticks his middle finger up at Lily, and Mr Hayes looks up from his laptop and frowns at the two of them.

"Enough of that, thanks."

"What's the matter, Maisey? Don't you like the thought of me leaving you here, all alone?" he asks, sarcastically.

"Yes, because I just can't get enough of that knock-off cologne," I retort, returning the sarcasm, before becoming serious. "I'm just trying to adhere to the seating plan. And helping Mr Hayes out by encouraging classmates to follow it too."

"Well, I don't see you telling Ellie Tonks to move back to her 'actual' seat."

I roll my eyes, and then prove Miles wrong. "Ellie," I call out. "Ellie!"

Ellie Tonks looks over her shoulder so that our eyes meet.

"Is that your seat in the seating plan?" I ask, trying to bite back a grin.

Ellie mutters something under her breath before moving.

Miles looks at me with raised eyebrows. "Not bad, Thompson. But I'm not completely satisfied."

"Why ever not, Miles?"

"Because you only did it under my command."

"Your command? Excuse me? You do not order me around," I defend myself.

"But you didn't do it before I mentioned it," he says with raised eyebrows.

"That's because I didn't know Ellie Tonks was in the wrong seat!"

"I find that hard to believe. I mean, after all, I thought you wanted to encourage class mates to follow the seating plan."

"That doesn't mean that–" I pause mid-sentence, realising that it's not worth arguing with Miles.

It'll just continue on forever until I end up giving up, anyway.

"Class, get out your workbooks and test each other for the first ten minutes of class," Mr Hayes calls out from the front of the classroom. "It'll be good revision on what we did on Tuesday, and of course for our test."

Miles and I turn to each other.

"We didn't get anywhere the other day," I point out to Miles. "So how about we make the most of this ten minutes with you asking me the questions."

"There's probably no point," Miles said, flipping through his workbook. "You probably already know everything off by heart."

"Just do it," I order, with raised eyebrows.

"Fine. What..." Miles tries to decide on what to ask me. "What are the main functions of the law?"

"To resolve disputes, provide for change, regulate conduct...and...umm..."
