My mind is groggy when we arrive at Valientville and I almost don't realize that we don't stop at the black iron gates leading into the Courageous City.
"Where are you taking us?" I ask the bus driver over hundreds of screaming teens.
"To Valiant Base. Outside of town." The bus driver shouts back.
Every shrieking teenager stops talking and moving, and turns towards the bus driver wide-eyed.
"You mean we are going past the border?" A Bright girl asks.
"Yes. That is exactly what he means." I say back to her.
"But all there is out there is ruins." She says calmly.
"And Coney Island." I say smirking.

Coney Island is a story everyone used to tell us growing up, how when the world was at war and the weather grew worse, how the amusement park was used as a shelter for the sick. Those who were infected with Plague X were sent there to die.
It is told that every once in awhile an Infinity Born will wonder out there and never come back... Alive that is. Everyone has had that fate except my Father.
"Aren't you scarred?" Matt turns towards me an hour into the trip.
"Of Coney Island?" I ask.
Max nods.
"Nah. It was where my father disappeared to after my mother "died." He came out of it alive, now that I think of it, he came out better than alive, he came out happy." I smile as my father's face appears in my head, "You think my mother was there? When he went there, you think he was really going to visit my mother?" Max just puts his arm around me and smiles.
"I don't think your Dad knew she was alive, Flocks." He smirks and I punch him.
"No more childhood nicknames, we are going somewhere where we must be as heartless as possible." He catches me fiddling with my boot as I say the last few words.
"What you got there?" He asks calmly.
"Nothing. Why?" I look at him calmly flicking my eyes towards my boot once. I move my hand out of the boot allowing him to see the reflective blade of a knife.
"Where did you get that from?" He asks just above a whisper.
"I found it." His eyes tell me he isn't buying it.
"Where'd you find it?"
"I stole it from a Valiant Officer when my father died." He looks at me disapprovingly, "For protection."
He gives me a look I have never seen him use before, a mix between anger and sympathy, it makes his eyes look like they are looking into your soul.
"Stop it." I say calmly.
He doesn't.
"Stop it." I say more forcefully.
He looks out the window and I sigh.
We don't talk the rest of the ride, and the silence is actually quite nice... It gives me time to think. It seems the rest of the bus falls silent in fear while my brain is skipping along a path of complete and total peace.
"Get out!" The bus driver yells.
Buses are one of the only vehicles that still move on the road, now a days most things fly or hover, but buses carry so many people to and fro that it was almost useless to spend time discovering a magnetic force field big enough to hold tons of weight, when the streets would be easier to ride on.
