Posee waited in Infinity Park, inland of the city. I smiled when I found her standing near a rusty sign that read "CenPar Zoo."
I first discovered this sign when I was a six. I immediately asked my teacher what a zoo was... She told me the basic thing teachers say when they have no clue, "Phlow Six you have an overative imagination! There is no such thing as a zoo! You must be reading the isgn in the park wrong!" Then she sent me off to take a reading quiz. Something about possibly being in the wrong class level. I passed.
"Hey Posee! How was school?" I smiled and helped her jump the black rotiron fence into the "zoo."
"Fine. Amalia won first place in the Hoverscooting contest. I got fifth out of twenty! Totally cool huh?" I nodded, "How was the test? Do you know what categories you got? What are you going to choose? Are you gonna have to leave me with Aunt Matilda?"
"Posee I'd never leave you with Aunt Matilda! Don't even think that way! I love you too much silly." We were now past the entrance and into a small building with a sign that told us we were now at the "Wildlife Cafe." I'd only ever been to one cafe in my life in one of the lower sections of town.
We both sat down in a booth with a metal table covered in white paint chippings. I pulled out a knapsack inside was a Tupperware filled with steaming mac n' cheese. I typed in the keycode unlocking the warm deliciousness. I also grabbed two shake makers and three forks. As we shook the silver metal containers, Posee noticed the third fork.
"Is Matty coming?" She did't take her eyes off the pink mush that replaced the pink powder in the container.
"Yeah, it could be our last days in this part of the city, so we decided to spend it all together." I smiled and took a big gulp of the brown mush I'd made. It tasted like rich milk chocolate with a hint of banana.
"Why didn't you bring him a shake." She now locked her blue eyes on mine.
"Cause it's our thing and always will be. Cheers?" I could tell she wanted me to choose to be with her forever... But I'm not sure if I could manage not being myself all the time and instead philosophizing about what exhilaration felt like.
"To new beginnings and Infinity Borns." We both say at the same time.
After our milkshakes were long gone and our stomachs were empty, Matty appeared running quickly. He looked scared. I stood up quickly.
"Matilda was hit! A hover-car with a couple of high Valient teens rammed into her hip." Posee and I stared at each other sending mental "uh-oh" signals.
She pulled her hover-scooter out of her backpack and fastened her helmet on her head. While Matty and I stood wobbling on our hover-boards and pulled on our black beanies and navy blue sun glasses. The beanies had special in forced fibers that used the sun as a magnet to make sure we couldn't fall on our heads if we crashed. The sunglasses gave us a whole news cast of the city and used our ear chips to tell us new information about city laws etc etc. We all buckled our safety belts that boomeranged us back into the sky if we fell.
Once we were ready we zoomed off towards the main square where all the cities meet at one park.
I stared in the direction of Valiantville. I always thought it was a stupid name for a city filled with brave people. We passed several people with shocked eyes searching the sky for the cause of the sudden burst of wind, but we were to fast for the typical eye to see, even Posee flew as fast as Mat and I. She always gain speed on the turns, unlike us who rounded corners cautiously, she glided her way in loopty loos and half turns never slowing. When we reached my aunt Matilda she was laying on a hover-gurney being toed into an ambulance. The police droids stopped our attempt to come past the caution tape.
