The Tunnels

Part two

Sky and the others sat there for a while longer to think then Sky looked up and he had a idea "guys we need to at least find shelter like in a cave or something" Sky said "dude where do you think we would find a cave around here" Ty asked starting to get a little annoyed "well we need to go find one" Sky said and Jerome gave him a solemn look and he looked really serious "did you forget these two can't walk" Jerome growled under his breath. "We can walk Jerome" Mitch said now slowly getting up but he put very little pressure on his injured leg "yeah and i'm a dog" Jerome said sarcastically and Mitch shot him a look "I am kidding dude" Jerome said and Ty slapped him across the face "this isn't a time to be joking around like you always do" Ty growled and Jason slowly got up holding the pain inside so he didn't show it "Jason are you sure you two can walk?" Sky asked and he nodded and the group slowly started to walk towards a trail and Sky saw a cave but it was quite a ways away he was afraid that they wouldn't be able to make that long of a walk for his friends so he turned to them "guys I see a cave but it is really far away maybe it could take weeks for us to get there" Sky said.

"We can do it, we can take breaks if we need to" Jason said and he looked at Mitch to see if he approved of this and he nodded in agreement "okay it is settled then lets go" Sky said and the group started walking again Mitch slowly fell behind the pack of friends and Jason fell in beside him and they continued to limp side by side. "Do we need to take a break you two" Ty asked and they shook their heads and they continued for a few more hours until Jason and Mitch collapsed to their knees and they decided they needed to stop for a little while and they built a fire "I'll take first watch" Sky said and everyone nodded. Mitch laid there awake and he was lost in thought :why couldn't I have just done something: he shoved the thoughts away and sat up.

 Sky looked down at him and he leaped down from his spot and walked over to his friend "can't sleep" he asked and Mitch looked at him "no I can't stop thinking about what happened back there, I mean I could have gotten Jason killed for all I know" Mitch said and Sky's eyes narrowed and he became solemn "Mitch that was in no way your fault and if he died he would have done it protecting you and he knows you would do the same for him, I have seen you two bond this whole entire time we are out here and if he didn't care about you he would have just let you die" Sky said putting his hand on Mitch's shoulder. "I just feel like there was something else I could have done or I could have done better" Mitch said looking at him "that was beyond what you could control no one could have controlled what went down today" Sky said and Mitch felt better "thanks that is what I needed to hear" Mitch said and he fell asleep shortly after their talk, It became morning and the golden sunlight gleamed through the tree's and everyone woke up they picked up their weapons and started to walk again but this time Jerome wasn't going to leave his friends side and he helped Mitch walk, Jason stayed in the front with Sky and Ty, it took a while until they got to a stream and they took a break.

Jerome sat next to Mitch and they threw rocks into the stream, there was nothing but silence, they just sat there and took a moment to catch their breath, Jerome looked at Mitch who was leaning against a tree and Jerome walked over to him slowly " Mitch, is everything alright, you have looked really depressed the past few days" Jerome explained, Mitch didn't respond to his mind was in a different world he wasn't really in the right state of mind he was still messed up after what happened a few days ago. "Jerome I would have gotten you killed, if I wasn't so dumb it wouldn't of happened at all" Mitch said and Jerome hesitated at these words "okay first off no you wouldn't have gotten me killed and second of all don't say things like that you scare me, I feel like your gonna kill yourself when you say those things" Jerome argued back.
