As the youngest of three, I never had to deal much with kids. Of course, there were a ton of little kids in my pack, but I never had to see them except at the meetings I was forced to attend until I shifted and rejected the pack. So, I never had one in my care before.
Especially for such an extended period of time.
It was clear that I had hit Juan's head a tad too hard on the cement earlier, because he was still konked out in back. I shouldn't have had to wait for him to wake up, but of course Kelsey was persistant in keeping her house address a secret from me- because nothing could be easy for me today.
"Not until you buy me Dairy Queen," she had said, and I rolled my eyes.
"Your parents can buy you ice cream when you get home. Shouldn't you want to get home?" I questioned, trying to hold back my irritation. Kelsey, behind the blonde curly hair and bright blue eyes, was an evil little brat.
"I don't live with my parents," she shrugged. "And actually, I'm not thrilled about going back. I mean, I didn't like being with Juan and the rest, but...."
I gave her a look of doubt. "I doubt your home life is that bad," I insisted. I knew what she was doing. She was trying to make me feel bad for her.
"My brother is never home. Did you know he didn't even try to come and save me? He probably didn't even notice I was missing," she said, her voice growing quiet in fake depression towards the end. She even jutted her bottom lip out a little.
"I'm not made of money, kid. Just tell me where you live," I said through gritted teeth. We we were parked in an empty gas station, probably seeming very suspicious to passerbys. I just hoped no police officers would come up and see Juan chained up in the back.
"Brinley, they didn't feed me very well," she said, tilting her chin toward Juan. "And my brother will pay you back. I just want ice cream," she bargained. That's right, she found out my name. Stupid Jenson.
"And I just want for you to shut your annoying mouth, but we don't always get what we want, huh?" I said sarcastically, and her face lit up with anger. Her cheeks began to get red, and then she startled me with a scream.
"Ahhhhhhhh! Ah, ah, AHHH!" she started screeching. It was intensified in my wolf hearig, and I covered my ears with my hands, cringing.
"Stop it, DAMNIT, SHUT UP!" I screamed back. Her voice faded into a low whine.
"Brinleyyyyyyyyyy," she complained, and I groaned in irritation.
"Just for being a brat, you're not getting any ice cream," I said, accenting my words with a low growl. She let out a high pitched snarl.
"I'm telling my brother you helped kidnap me, and then he's going to kill you," she said, turning away from me to cross her arms. Talk about a drama queen....
"Kelsey, you are so lucky I'm not on my period. You'd have been dead by now," I threatened. And on and on we went, until a beautiful sound interuppted our bickering.
