Two men sit together on the hill of Brokeback Mountain. Jack Twist and Ennis Del Mar.
Jack is laying on Ennis' chest while humming some song he loved. Their hands are connected on Jack's chest.
"These are my favorite moments in life. When I'm with you, I feel perfect," Jack says out of nowhere. Ennis is silent. Then he turns Jack around and kisses him with as much force as he can. Jack smiles underneath the kiss.
Jack had always loved when Ennis would initiate the kiss. He loved when the big man would push his soft lips against his own. He loved Ennis, even if they'd never said it.
Their kiss was filled with passion and love for the other. It ended way too quickly for both of them even though it was a long kiss.
"Same for me," says Ennis softly, still holding a smiling Jack.
"I told Laureen I'm divorcin' her. I want you and only you. I want a house with you. I want that little ass of yours. Please be mine," Jack said this in a sing-song manner.
Ennis only sighed and argued the usual, "You know we can't. This is all we can do."
"That's what you always say!" Jack yells with so much built up anger. "I would die for you, Ennis. I have so many emotions for you and I don't know which one stands out the most. Ennis, I can't do this anymore. I just think that we should see each other for a while. I go live somewhere in Texas for a while and when and if you're ready to do this, then I'll be back." Jack is holding back tears and Ennis' vision is starting to get blurry.
"I'm sorry Jack," he says this so softly that Jack almost doesn't hear him. Jack walks to his car and gets in.
They both almost run to each other and say the three words that would connect them for life. Neither does. Ennis watches Jack pull away and he regrets not doing it. He regrets not running to his Jack and grabbing him and holding him and telling him that he loves him. Jack has tears streaming down his face when he drives home as does Ennis. They both have so many regrets.

A knock at the door surprises Ennis. It's about three in the morning. His head is lolling and drool was starting to pool underneath him. He can't sleep though. He's thinking too much about Jack.
He slowly stands up and walks to the door.
He opens it to find a panicking Jack with blood pouring out of his body onto his clothes. His shirt is now a stained red.
"What in the hell happened?" Ennis asks pulling Jack into his home. He starts grabbing towels to stop the bleeding.
Jack just smiles up at him, "I wonder if heaven looks nice and if people like us are allowed into it?" He ask this sounding loopy. Ennis starts getting worried.
"Don't say things like that because you aren't dying," Ennis says sounding really scared. He doesn't wanna lose Jack. "Damn it Twist, stop bleeding!" He screams.
"Couple of guys started punching on me and calling me queer. Then one gets out a tire iron and starts beating me with it," he says this with a darkness in his eyes. "I love you Ennis Del Mar." Ennis holds Jack as he closes his eyes for the final time. Jack was dead. Nothing could bring him back. Ennis runs outside to get away from him and screams into the night. "I love you too, Jack! I love you too!" He screams this repeatedly hoping that this was all a dream.

The next week goes in a blur. The coroner announces him dead. His funeral is full of people who loved him and a few people who I wish weren't there like his boss or wife that I know orchestrated the murder.
Laureen called me the day after the coroner announced him dead. She said that he died by a tire exploding and a rim hitting him in the face. I knew it wasn't true. I just gave her small acknowledgements. I don't care what she has to say.
The Saturday after his death, I call Alma. I tell her plainly that she was right about Jack and that he loved him. The gun was to his head when he told her to tell his girls he loved then and that he was sorry. The only thing Alma heard was the gunshot through the phone.
