This isn't one of those cliché stories where the main character wakes up in the beginning of the story, that's boring and overused. Instead, we'll start off this story with our boring main character, Rem.
Rem is one of those rich kids; he's been spoiled since the moment he was born, and he absolutely hated having to mingle with the poor. He was a snob and expected his maids to take care of him while he catered to whatever his father demanded. His father was a strict man, and he had only built a fortune due to taking over Rem's grandfather's business. All they did was make shoes, but that brought in a lot of money over time. Rem had never cared about being the heir, he just cared about the money.
Rem often rode with his father in a limo, and he followed him everywhere. He had to give off the appearance of a smart, independent leader, which he accomplished by observing his father very closely. This meant when he was younger, he would walk around their mansion with his hands behind his back- just like his father.
Anyways, this rich brat was in the limo with his father one morning. His father was lecturing him about something- his school work possibly? Rem wasn't paying attention and didn't bother to. He placed his elbow on the door, and rested his hand on his face. His father made a scoffing noise, and Rem instantly knew that his father was annoyed with him. Rem let out a sigh. Beginning to look out the window, his father trailed on and on.
Rem rolled his eyes and focused at the landscape along the side of the road. Trees, trees, a bush, and a more trees! Just wonderful! However, he saw one of the trees rustle, and he knew that today wasn't a windy day. Rem caught a glimpse of a pair of yellow, glowing eyes. They resembled a cat's. When Rem blinked, the eyes were gone, almost as if they had never been there in the first place. Rem squinted, trying to see if he could see anything in the landscape.
He could see nothing else, besides leaves, leaves, and- guess what- more leaves! Rem groaned. His father grunted, and Rem turned his head. "Pay attention! You'll need to know what I'm teaching you or else you won't be a successful heir," Rem's father grunted.
"I'm only sixteen, I don't need to know how to pay a mortgage yet. Tell me when I'm eighteen, old man," Rem responded. He pushed a strand of dark red hair out of his face and turned back towards the window. Rem didn't care what his father thought he should be, he only cared what his mother had to say, and she died in an accident when he was too young to remember.
"You are my son and you will listen to what I have to say. I am preparing you for the rest of your life! Show me some respect, Rem Hall!" his father raised his voice. Rem ignored him; the boy didn't care and wasn't going to care anytime soon. My, oh my, this kid really was a brat. Even the chauffeur let out a disapproving sigh.
"Don't say my full name, it's annoying."
"When we get home, you are not to come out of your room for nothing. Not even for dinner and none of the maids will bring you anything to eat. You will be punished properly for your disrespect."
"That's not fair! If anything, you shouldn't be starving your only child, let alone the heir to your fortune!"
"That's enough, Rem. Not another word about this and do not speak with any of the maids about sneaking you any food from the kitchen. You will also not leave your room to head down to the kitchen. If I hear about you leaving your room or eating, you will not eat anything tomorrow," his father ordered. "If you disobey that, you will only be provided with only water and a piece of bread for the next week."
"But that's no-"
"No buts! Now remain quiet for the rest of this ride!" Rem clenched his fists. His face felt hot and it was probably the same color as his hair by now. He stared back at the landscape, narrowing his eyes at the many, many trees.
