I flipped the page of my Muggle book. It was about some dumb whore who fell in love with some Sparkly vampire. It sickened me, yet I felt like I couldn’t put it down. My back was leaned casually against a beech tree beside the Black Lake, and Charles was chewing a stick he picked up on the way here.
I heard someone humming, along with the sound of skipping footsteps. All of a sudden, a blood-curdling scream pitched itself through the air, and I jumped, spinning around.
Charlie’s face was white, and she was pointing at me. She darted forward and grabbed my book from my hands.
“Hey!” I yelled, jumping to my feet. “Why did you take my book?!”
“You WHORE!” she screamed, holding my book up. “THIS. ISN’T. LITERATURE!”
I sighed. “Must we go through this every day?” I asked, exasperated.
“YES!” Charlie screamed, then she spun around and threw the book high into the air, and my Twilight book hit the water of the Black Lake out in the middle, where a large, orange tentacle surfaced and pulled my book down. “Now the giant squid can endure the pain of reading that book!” Charlie said, striking a pose that strongly resembled a Muggle superhero.
“… Fuck you, Charlie,” I said, before spinning around on my heel and stomping toward the school.
“Every day!” I yelled as I made my way into the entrance hall. “She throws my book either into the fire, a lake, or feeds it to her cat!”
“Done ranting yet?” an amused voice asked from my left. I jumped and spun to look and see who was making me jump.
“You scared me, George!” I yelled, faking having a heart attack. “Don’t do that!” I slapped his arm playfully. George rubbed his arm while laughing.
“So, Charlie talked to me earlier,” George started, as he fell into stride beside me.
“Oh no, what did she say?”
“She said you though I was ‘Mr. Hotty…ness’, and that you wanted to go out for… ‘texting and scones’… What does that mean?”
My eyes widened. “Oh god… damn her and that Dr. Who!” I yelled, looking behind me. “First my book, and now this! George, I’m so sorry. I mean, I don’t take it back, but, it’s just – “I took off speaking really fast so that not even I could understand what I was saying.
George just started laughing, and put his hand over my mouth to silence me. “I understand,” he said. “You really do think I’m hot – “(Great, I thought, what a way to bring up his ego…) “– but you don’t think of me that way. I understand completely.” George removed his hand from my mouth. “Friends?”
I nodded. “Yeah, friends.” For now, I added in my mind.
