Prologue

I sat in the empty waiting room with my head between my hands while tears spilled. I looked up to see the light still on, no sign of any doctors or nurses coming out. I wish they'd just hurry up. Oh my god is she going to be ok? Please God let her be ok. I need her to live. She's the only one I have left. Don't leave me mom please don't. I got up and paced around, a habit of mine whenever I was nervous. Every few seconds I looked at the operation room's double doors. I never liked hospitals anyway. The dour mood of dying patients and sobbing from the family members. Sure it could be a place of birth, but it's still a sad place. That's why I always avoided hospitals and fortunately I never got sick much. I never even thought of when I can be dragged here because of my mom being in a car accident. Well, until now. It was such a nice day and my mom had told me she was going out to run a few errands. Next thing I knew I was picking up the phone and rushing here with tears rolling down my cheeks. That was three hours ago. Sitting in the waiting room for three whole hours without anything to do or anyone to talk to is the by far the worst possible thing I have ever done in my entire life. The depressing sobs coming from rooms nearby are just enough to bring my hopes down a few notches. It was as if they were sucking me dry till I didn't have any hope anymore. They were like a hope...sponge. I gazed around once again to face white walls. Just when I was about to sit down my phone vibrated. I reached for the phone and stepped away from the operation room.

"hello?"

"hello I'm calling from Mary North Hospital. We are looking for the relatives of Auden Blaze. He has just been in an accident and was brought in at critical condition. Please come as soon as possible."

"wait what I don't know a person named Auden Bl-"

"beep beep beep beep."

"aze..." I pressed end call and stood confused. Auden Blaze? I have never even heard of this person. Why'd the hospital call my number? I walked towards the reception area with my phone in my hand.

"excuse me." I called to a nurse. She turned around.

"yes how may I help you?"

"I just received a call telling me a person was just in an accident and he came here... I don't know the person."

"ok let me check." she bends over the computer and tapped away. After a few seconds she looked up.

"did you get the call about Auden Blaze?"

"yes it was him."

"I'm so sorry it was a mistake. I think someone accidentally called the wrong number because you number was just on the list because of your mother. So sorry for the inconvenience."

"that's ok." I said and was about to turn around, but decided to ask, "so I know it's none of my business, but how is he?"

She looked at me suspiciously before replying, "he was just in a car accident. He's in critical condition, but it says here he was just transferred into a room."

"can you tell me the room number?"

"189."

"thank you." I told her politely. With that, I left and walked back to the waiting room. 189...189. I stopped halfway and saw the light of the operation room. Still lit. I turned towards the rooms and began my way down, searching for 189.
