I Think You have The Wrong Number

Chapter 5

I parked my car into the first empty spot I saw and then grabbed my purse and got out the car. I walked up to the hospital doors waiting for the automatic sliding doors to open. I walked down to a familiar hallway and opened my mom's door. I peeked in to see that she's still sleeping. Deciding to not wake her up, I closed the door and walked down the hallway again, stopping at 189. I grabbed the handle and twisted it open. With a little hesitation, I stepped into the room. I kept my head down afraid of seeing Auden's face and the recognition. Finally when I was staring down directly at the bed's metal legs, I raised my head. To be met with an empty and neatly folded bed.

I squinted in confusion.

"What?" I whispered into the empty air.

I warily walked to the door and twisted my head to the side.

Room 189

I was in the right room.

'Where's Auden?' I pondered as I shifted my gaze to the empty bed.

With an immense amount of confusion, I walked back to the front of the hospital to ask one of the nurses. When I stood in front of the circular table, I waited for the nurse to turn around. Annoyance shot through me as she continued to shuffle through a heap of files and folders with her back to me.

I coughed and sneezed with exaggeration and she finally turned around.

"Can I help you?" she asked with a tight smile plastered on her face as if she was unhappy with the whole universe.

"I was wondering where the patient in room 189 went?" I asked.

"Hold on let me check." she said and thumped herself down on the chair in front of the computer and tapped away with a careless expression.

"It seems he left this morning." she finally said looking up at me.

Sadness overtook me and I didn't know what to say for a second. I stood like an idiot and my jaw slightly dropped.

He left? Why?

"I thought he was on crucial condition how could he have possibly left?" I asked in a small voice more to myself than the nurse.

"He insisted and created a commotion till the doctors finally let him go." she told me and then stared at me as if willing me to leave.

He insisted? If he was still in critical condition then why did he choose to leave rather than stay till he feels better?

Questions taunted me as I carelessly mumbled a thank you and walked away.

Disappointment and sadness followed me as I trudged back down the hallway feeling a heaviness in my heart. I walked into my mom's room to find her awake. She smiled happily when she saw me. Then she frowned a little when she saw my expression.

"Is something wrong? Why do you look like you just ran over a cat?" my mom questioned me.

I smiled at my mom's question. Only she would think I looked like I 'ran over a cat'. And it certainly isn't fair because she was the one that did the deed last year. Luckily we got the poor cat to the vet soon enough otherwise it would've died for sure. Fatso now lives with me and my mom. He's well fed, sleeps all day and only shows love towards us when we are giving him his food. Eating all day and then sleeping right after I swear he weights at least twenty five pounds. He practically cleans the floor with his furry stomach every time he goes somewhere around the house. Therefore I decided to call him Fatso.

"That's not fair mom we all know u were the one that ran over a cat. If Fatso was here right now he'd claw you to death." I informed her with a grin.

"Oh please that cat does nothing but gain weight. He probably would've broken the cat scale if there is one. Claw me to death? He'd claw himself to death if you had a bowl of food." she pffted me but smiled nonetheless.

I laughed and then unconsciously compared Garfield with Fatso. Except for Fatso's difference in color - brown - I'd say they were twins.

I wish Fatso would make a cat movie of his own but hey we don't always get what we want.

...and I want to know why Auden left...

I sighed and sat down on the side of my mom's bed.

"Ok. Spill it. What happened?" my mom glared at me with concern in her violet eyes.

I hesitated. Did I really want to tell my mom that I met - stalked - this guy who was in the room right next to hers and just might have developed feelings for him?

No.

She'd probably think I was crazy and introduce me to the hospital shrink.

"My Oreo fell?" I laughed. My mom kept her stern expression and I slowly seized my laughter and looked away, afraid to meet her gaze.

"Uhhh...-" I was about to continued but then a knock came from the door and I jumped up to open it letting out a sigh of relief.

A doctor and a nurse smiled at me, I quickly recognized Dr. Quinn, when I opened the door and I returned the gesture before stepping out of the way to let them in.

"How are you doing today Mrs. Taylor?" the doctor asked my mom kindly.

(A/N : I'm not sure if I said her last name in the previous chapters but it's Taylor)

"As good as a woman who just got hit by a car could ever be." my mom chuckled and held out her hands in a 'tada' motion.

Dr. Quinn laughed along with my mom before he walked around her to check her monitor, blood pressure and the nurse wrote everything that he said onto her little hospital pad.

When Dr. Quinn finished his check up on mom he told us bye with a kind smile and started to walk out the door.

Suddenly, I remembered that he helped save Auden and he seemed to know that he didn't have any family members available to visit. So he must know why Auden left right?

"Be right back mom. I have to go to the bathroom." I lied and quickly ran out the door to catch up to Dr. Quinn.

"If only she spills the beans faster than she runs to relieve her bladder then I'd live ten years longer." I vaguely hear my mom mumble to herself before I turn the corner.

"Dr. Quinn!" I yelled and he turned around as I caught up to him.

"Yes? Do you need something?" he asked.

"The patient in room 189."

"Ahh yes. Auden Blaze. What about him?" he looked at me curiously.

"Do you happen to know why he left so quickly? I thought he was in critical condition." I put my hands on my hip impatiently.

"All I know is that he created a commotion till the other doctors finally agreed to let him go." he reiterated what the nurse at the table had previously told me.

"Oh." I muttered in disappointment. Oh well. Then I turned around and started to walk away when I hear someone speak.

"Excuse me?" I turned around to see the nurse standing next to Dr. Quinn smile at me. I looked at her questionably.

"Yes?" I said.

"I was with the other doctors when the patient wanted to leave. He said something about having to go before someone finds him and then when the doctors tried to tell him about his condition in hopes of making him change his mind, he pulled all the needles off and threw stuff around and threatened to hurt Dr. James before the doctors finally couldn't stand it and signed the release papers." she told me in one breath and I soaked in the information like a Spongebob.

Someone is after him?
