Here's another George Story!!!
Gone!
Folding his covers back he felt the rush of spring air engulf his body in warmth. Today was the day he was going to ask Lucy to the upcoming school dance! He thought that with the sweater's help she was sure to say yes.
He had been having a great year since he had received his sweater. He never had any homework on weekends, which was fantastic, his marks were good. He had lots of good friends because, once the sweater had helped him to be included in several activities with different kids, they had had a chance to get to find out that he was fun to be with. And, what a relief, no annoying sister! Now it would top the year off with a cherry if Lucy just said yes when he asked her to the dance.
He chose his clothes carefully that morning as it was particularly important for him to look nice. He ran downstairs to have a quick breakfast before the bus came. When he was finished he went to the front door to grab his sweater and school bag but when he looked in the cupboard he saw that his sweater was gone! He tore through the house looking for his grubby old sweater until he heard the faint rumble of the quickly approaching school bus. He was forced to leave and step onto the bus without his sweater.
When he arrived at school, all he could think about was how he was ever going to ask Lucy to the dance without having his sweater to help him. He had planned to ask her in between classes when she wasn't surrounded by a circle of giggling girls! He would just have to do it without the sweater and hope for the best.
A couple of hours later he nervously ran to her classroom as the bell rang. There she was. He forced himself to walk right up to her and ask her straight out. As he walked away with a smile on his face, he recalled the nice smile and her sweet voice saying yes.
The bus ride home was more like a ride on a cloud as thoughts of Lucy and the upcoming dance floated through his mind. When he arrived home he went up to his room slowly to put his school things away. When he stepped through the door he saw a clean blue bundle on his bed. When he walked closer he saw a small piece of paper that read:
George,
I have been very embarrassed lately. With you walking around in that Smelly rag that you call a special sweater so I took it and washed it 15 times (literally 15 times), bleached it 6 times, and dyed it twice. It turned out a very nice shade of blue, don't you think?
Signed, your loving sister
He quickly grabbed the sweater. Examining it carefully he hoped it still worked!
