Welcome to our very first guide on cliche patrols in the Warriors series!
If You Didn't Know Already
There are two main types of patrols: hunting patrols and border patrols. Sometimes-like during The Fourth Apprentice-there are frequent water patrols, and search patrols are deployed to find missing cats. On a patrol, there is a patrol leader that is appointed by the deputy; they are normally a warrior. Most patrols are made up of two to five cats, but there are usually around three.
Border Patrols:
In fan-fictions, these patrols shouldn't exist. If they do end up being done, you should never mention that they are, in fact, border patrols, or have them mark the border, like you're supposed to. The only purpose of a border patrol is to get attacked by foxes, but that normally happens on hunting patrols.
Hunting Patrols:
In fan-fictions, these are the only patrols that exist. But, if your cat is on a hunting patrol, then they are allowed to do anything but hunt; they can talk to their Clanmates, run into other cats, and be under seemingly constant attack by foxes, but DO NOT HUNT.
Search Patrols:
These are hardly ever needed, but when that one kit seems to always be escaping camp, the leader or deputy usually sends out a patrol to find them. This patrol must be horrible at their job, never be able to spot a kit from a mile away, and must talk loudly enough that said kit can eavesdrop. They should only ever find the missing kit when that kit gets into trouble or actually walks up to them of their own choice.
Water Patrols:
Haha, these never happen in fan-fictions.
Battle Patrols:
No matter the enemy, your main character must be on the battle patrol. The fight didn't happen if they weren't there, right? Anyways, these patrols must always be either undersized or oversized. If your cats are fighting a fox, you need ten warriors as soon as possible. Oh, now they're battling the entirety of RiverClan? Now, you need only three or four cats to battle, and of course, your cats must win.
Herb-Gathering Patrols:
These patrols are usually initiated by a medicine cat or medicine cat apprentice who asks a warrior or warrior apprentice to accompany them for protection while they search for herbs. The extra set of paws should typically be used to hold on to extra herbs, despite the fact that these special, healing plants don't grow on every inch of the forest floor. Despite not being a trained medicine cat, your character must always point out herbs and know their names, so that the medicine cat can find them. Typically cats fall in love whilst patrolling together, and forbidden love is no exception here!
