Brooke’s chest rose and fell as she slowly shut her eyes. Kevin, who was now standing up, pulled his shirt over his head and zipped up his pants. “I’ll see you later, Brooke.” Kevin said before walking over to the stairs. Brooke could hear the distant sound of the door opening and shutting and she knew he had left. The brunette curled up on her side, pulling a blanket over herself as a set of tears began to fall down her cheeks. It wasn’t the first time something like that had happened. Often enough, Kevin would be over when the girl was in pain, physical or emotional, and he’d use her. He’d make her feel special, only to rip her heart out by leaving so quickly after. Brooke’s body shook as she curled herself into a ball, not bothering to put back on any clothing. The blanket over her naked body seemed to be enough for the girl. She doubted anybody would come downstairs, no one ever did. The only people who would ever be in the basement were Brooke, Kevin and Nick.
The girl slowly sat up, slipping on her panties and quickly pushing the hooks of her bra together. She moved her hand around across the floor, trying to find her phone, which she knew was down on the floor. Once Brooke gripped it in her hand, she quickly unlocked it, her heart breaking as she saw the background. A picture of her and Paige lingered across the screen and Brooke sat there, motionlessly. After a few seconds, not breathing at all, Brooke quickly slammed her finger onto the messages button. With her vision blurry from the tears, Brooke typed as quickly as possible, trying to find comfort in someone. She knew she couldn’t tell her mother or father and her younger brother was definitely off the list for comfort. If Brooke were to tell him about that, it would get awkward and uncomfortable real quick.
Almost instantly after the text was sent, Brooke dropped her phone onto the floor, curling back up onto her side and holding back her tears. Nothing was going good for the girl and it was hitting her hard.
Within ten minutes, Brooke heard the basement door squeak open and sat up to see who it was. Once she saw Nick walking over to her she tried to stop the rest of the tears that were going to fall. “P-please just h-h-hold me.” Brooke whispered, her voice cracking halfway through the sentence. And that’s exactly what the boy did. He laid down on the couch beside the girl and she quickly curled herself into his body. “Please don’t leave me.” She whispered, burying her face in the crook of his neck. Nick’s hand ran up and down the girl’s back as tried to get the brunette to stop crying.
“Brooke, what’s wrong?” He asked her, completely uncertain about what was up with the girl. But in all reality, there was no simple answer to that question. It was one of those things that would always remain unanswered. It wasn’t that something was wrong, it was that everything was wrong. Nothing was right. Although Brooke knew she probably should talk to someone about it, she’d rather keep it a secret and stay quiet about it.
