Chapter 2 - Illimitable

Rena's mind races all school day - obviously, not on her work.

Keberos.

Of all targets, it has to be the most evil, powerful wolf.

Rena has definitely tried to stay away from wolves. Since ancient times, her ancestors have resented werewolves (and lycanthropes in general), and vice versa. The wolves used to be the heartiest meal for elves, which they didn't appreciate. At the same time, elves begrudged the wolves for not agreeing to be dinner. It was truly a vicious cycle, and Rena can admit that while elves relied on wolves in the past, it seems silly that the two still detest each other now.

Yet, it'd evolved into a form of hate, like racism or sexism. Rena can remember her father's father telling her that wolves were created to be slain. He would often pull her aside in stores, muttering about "canine scum."

Since Rena's parents are divorced, and she lives with her pure human mother, she was taught to not judge anyone. She applies this to inhumans as much as humans.

"Miss Aimo?"

"Forty seven," Rena answers after having a split second to do the problem on the board. Thank goodness she'd learn to do her work while zoned out.

"Good. Now, everyone pack up. It's about lunch time."

Rena pulls her books out from underneath the chair to stand with them by the door. Her stomach decides to give an additional reminder that she should eat.

"Feelin' alright, Re?" Rena's friend Daniel asks as the class is dismissed. "I mean, you're a half-dead zombie all the time, but you wanna share why?"

"Just thinking about...an assignment." Not a total lie.

"Which one?"

"The PowerPoint we have to do for Mr. Kennedy," Rena quickly states, turning to go to the hallway her locker is in.

"Ah. The one I haven't started."

Rena rolls her eyes, laughing. "We both know you're gonna do it last minute and somehow get an A plus. Don't you have to go to your locker?" she adds, realizing she was followed.

"Not today," Daniel says. "Bean and cheese chalupa, remember?"

"Oh, yeah." Rena pulls her packed lunch out of her locker, allowing Daniel to shut it (and set the lock to zero: a quirk of his).

"And did you keep your promise? Packed vegetarian today?"

Rena hands her bag to Daniel. Of course she hasn't forgotten: she promised Daniel that she would go vegetarian for a day, since he was one.

"PB and J," Daniel lists, "a granola bar, Doritos, and a small salad. Good, opposed to your usual turkey and ham sandwich with sticks of beef." He nods approvingly, handing the bag back.

"I'm glad I have your permission to eat," Rena quips with a smirk.

"And you didn't have bacon for breakfast...?"

"Nope, cereal."

"Good girl."

Rena laughs. "Wanna have lunch in the library today? I wanna do some research."

"Do you honestly think Mrs. Laherty would allow that?" Daniel asks incredulously.

Rena shrugs. "Worth a shot. She likes me."

She waits just outside the cafeteria while Daniel gets his food, having already explained to the monitor her plans.

"Let's go!" she exclaims once Daniel approaches.
