"Ow." Phil bent over and clutched his stomach from the excruciating stabbing pain that was way too consistent; with very few moments of relief.
He stood, looking at himself in the mirror before grabbing his toothbrush.
Once he had started brushing his teeth, he groaned in pain again. "Dammit."
"You okay?" Dan shouted from Phil's bedroom. He was already lying down. It was five minutes past midnight.
Phil would've liked to shout back, but considering his current situation, he didn't feel inapt to. He walked into his room with his hand on the toothbrush in his mouth, and Dan looked at him questioningly. "Yeah." Phil replied, voice muffled by toothpaste.
"Alright. Well go finish brushing your teeth and go to bed already."
"You can go to sleep before me, you know."
"Not really, considering you'll wake me up getting into bed, and then groaning and saying 'ow' because you're in pain. And then I'll wake up five more times because of the same thing. So I'm waiting for you to go to sleep with me."
Phil continued to brush his teeth before stopping and speaking out of a small opening between his lips, since he didn't want anything to drip. "You have your own bedroom. Go sleep in there if you don't want to get woken up by my constant noises of hurting." He was monotone.
Dan just rolled his eyes. "Are you mad at me Phil?"
Phil turned around and went back into the bathroom before spitting out the toothpaste and rinsing his mouth out with water. He wiped his face with a nearby towel and walked back into his room.
"You know I'm just worried about you, right? I don't really care if you wake me up, your situation is way worse than mine." Phil climbed into the bed next to him and groaned again. "Remember not to eat breakfast tomorrow morning."
"Owwww. Dammit!" Phil was getting more irritated by the pain he was going through. "Where exactly does it hurt?" Dan rolled over onto his side under the covers to look at Phil.
"My stomach. Basically everywhere at this point."
"Well it'll be gone after you get your surgery tomorrow. But I'm sorry it's hurting you this much."
"Yeah I am too."
Dan giggled. "Shut up." He kissed Phil's temple and placed a soft hand on his bare tummy.
"Night." Phil murmured.
"Goodnight, Phil." Dan replied in a whisper.
~ Next Morning ~
Phil stared up at his ceiling until he was pretty sure he could draw a map of where each plaster bump was, and chart it.
Dan was turned on his side, facing away from Phil. He continued to sleep, exhausted from how he was woken up almost every hour of the night.
Phil's eyes were bloodshot and tired with lethargy. "Dan?" He said quietly.
Dan made a low noise in response. "What?" He groaned.
"I'm sorry I woke you up so many times."
"You're doing it again."
"Don't be an asshole."
"Sorry."
"It's only an hour until the appointment."
"What?!" Dan's eyes flicked open quickly and he jolted up into a sitting position.
