Helpless, broken sobs echoed within the walls of the spacious boy's room, drowning out the sounds of a frantic female's voice, screaming for someone to call for an ambulance while trying to soothe the young boy's fright by stroking his back gently.
"I can't see! I can't see!" The figure of the boy uncurled itself to reveal a skinny frame and a face slicked with fresh tears. The unblinking eyes were the striking feature of the boy's face as it sported a pearlish pink colour, almost transparent. Any stranger would have commented on the beauty of his strikingly fascinating eyes but had they known that they were merely for display they might have cringed and pitied him instead.

I remember the smell of a lemony disinfectant as I was wheeled to my room
I remember the annoying sound of the repetitive squeak as the wheelchair with me in it was pushed along
I remember the feeling of an irritating material placed over both my eyes as the surgery was completed. It was most likely a bandage but being the child I was I presumed it was special glasses that would help me see better
I remember the sugary taste of the cake my current guardian had provided once I was admitted out of hospital, trying to remember when my childhood had sunk this low.
I could remember all of it. The worst part of it was being constantly told that "4 out of 5 senses wasn't so bad" as a way of cheering me up. For a while I believed it until I realized that if I couldn't see I would slowly forget the important things that made up my life. My dreams were my only escape of reality, but then I met Marshall.
At first I thought he was a dream, another illusion my mind's eye had conjured up. I still think he is.
But first let's start at the beginning.
