8 year old Yuki POV

"Yuki, come here please," Kaien Cross called. Yuki hurried to the doorway hoping Kaname was visiting. Instead of her savior, there stood a girl about her age. She was covered in blood and there was a puddle of it in the doorway. "Yuki, this is Annabel. She will be staying with us for a while, her family was attacked by vampires. Please help clean her up while I make dinner."

Yuki nodded and walked towards the messy girl. She was quite pretty with her pale skin and dark hair that resembled Snow White's.

"Can I lead you to the bathroom?" Yuki asked permission. The girl said nothing but continued to look at Yuki with a blank gaze. Yuki grabbed Annabel's trembling hand and lead her to the bathroom. There, Yuki prepared a bath and wetted a cloth. "There, it should be ready, I'm going to get some clothes and clean the trail we left, okay?"

Again, Yuki had asked for permission, and again Annabel didn't respond, but Yuki left anyways. Yuki hurried to her room and picked out a light blue nightgown that Yuki herself had just outgrown. It should be perfect on Annabel. Halfheartedly, she cleaned up the trail of blood left by the small girl. Afterwards, she figured that Annabel would have been done cleaning herself, so she proceeded to the bathroom to check on her. She knocked. No answer. "Annabel? Are you done yet?"

No answer. Worried, Yuki opened the door to find Annabel sitting against the wall with silent tears running down her expressionless face. The salt water tears were pink due to the blood on her face. Somberly, Yuki walked towards her and sat down next to the traumatized girl. Yuki put her arm around Annabel to comfort her and eventually Annabel calmed down and fell asleep against Yuki. Yuki, who didn't want to wake the girl, stayed and fell asleep too.

"Aww! My two little girls fell asleep next to each other! How adorable!" Kien Cross gushed in a baby voice.

End of 8 year old Yuki POV

Annabel eventually got a bath but still didn't talk, much to the Cross's disappointment. Everyday she would sit and stare out the window. Until one day, when a certain vampire came to visit Yuki.

Annabel sat next to the window and stared at the sky and trees. Yuki was super excited or something and was outside much to Kien's displeasure. Annabel didn't have a clue who her adopted sister was waiting for. Sister. . . Annabel stared harder at the sky like it had a secret message just for her to figure out. The door opened and attracted Annabel's attention. There was a brown haired boy with Yuki glued to his side.

A vampire. . .

"Annabel, this is Kaname, the person who saved me, today marks the anniversary" Yuki told her grinning. Annabel stared at the vampire and he stared back. "Kaname, this is Annabel, she lives here with me."

The vampire boy, Kaname, smiled at Annabel. Annabel nodded . . . Kaname? Where has she heard that name? Yuki headed to her room to show Kaname a toy she got in town.

"Kaname Kuran, so glad for you to visit." Kaien Cross said rushing to the vampire. Wait, Kuran? That was...Annabel gasped and attention was diverted to her.

Annabel stood up,"I-I'm so-so-sorry I-I di-didn't re-realize who-who you w-were." Annabel stuttered profusely with a weak voice.

Kaien practically squealed, "Kaname, there must be something about you that makes kids talk!"

"That's alright," Kaname replied ignoring Kaien," There was no way to know. And besides, I'd rather you treat me all the same."

Annabel nodded as Yuki entered with toy in hand and proceeded to tell Kaname everything that had happened while he was away. Eventually she got to the part where Annabel first came into the picture.

"-and her white dress was covered in blood." Yuki continued on. Annabel flinched visably at the memories surfacing. The feeling of the blood lingered even after it was all washed away.

"Yuki, I'd appreciate it if you stopped talking about it," Annabel weakly replied with a monotone voice.

"You talked!," Yuki gasped before realizing Annabel's words, "Oh, I'm so sorry, Annabel. Alright Kaname, after all that happened-"

Yuki switched to a different tale and Annabel continued to watch out the window. Kaname Kuran, a pureblood vampire, I hope you don't recognize what I am. . .

*Later that night while Yuki and Annabel slept*

"Kaien, tell me about Annabel," the young Kaname demanded.

Kaien sighed while putting away the plates from supper, "Her full name is Annabel Diana Ambrosia Quinn, she was found when the association attacked a vampire owned laboratory- they feared it housed Level E's or humans- they didn't find guards or scientists, but a blood soaked room with Annabel in it. Apparently, she was enclosed there with her family, but they perished. The association declared her human and healthy so they sent her here because I have a reputation for taking in orphans."

Kaname nodded, "I understand, but you're not telling me something."

Kaien sighed and took off his glasses to rub the bridge of his nose. "She insisted that her family were vampires. The association did testing and the blood proved she was housed with vampires."

"So a vampire family took in a young girl."

"I'm afraid not, her DNA is similar, too similar, to the blood drenching the walls."

"She's human."

"With an iron imbalance, yes."

"Could her family be turned vampires?"

"No," Kaien spoke ominously.

"No? The only other logical answer is that she's the human daughter of vampires."

"That's what I believed happened. With the blood found, any things possible."

"What do you mean 'with the blood found'?"

"The blood they found belonged to a pureblood family. The blood is also in the girl."

"Pureblood. . ," Kaname murmured in disbelief.

"Yes, I was hoping Annabel would talk about it by now, but today was the first time I heard her voice. And she has an accent! I didn't know she was British!" Kaien gushed. Kaname shook his head and departed until next year.

Annabel began to talk more, but not often. She never talked about the past. Kaien Cross would gush about her so called accent. Honestly, she couldn't tell she had one. As she hadn't lived in England for a long time. Kaname would roll around once a year and that was okay with her. Eventually, Zero joined their little orphan gang and she giggled when Zero went to stab Kaname with a butter knife as he hadn't known who he was shanking. The three grew up together and started Cross Academy and the Disciplinary Committee.
