A Second Chance/Corpse Bride 2

Prologue

Emily waltzed over to the entrance of the church and closed her eyes with a blissful smile upon her face. She felt herself change into a hundred butterflies and soar towards the moon. Her ex-fiancé was dead and she had found love at last. Even if she didn’t get married. She let out a sigh of joy. She was finally free. She could’ve sworn she even felt her own heart thump at the thought of that.

Victor’s P.O.V-Same Night

I felt my own heart get caught in my throat as I watched Emily transform into hundreds of butterflies and fluttered away towards the moon. It wasn’t likely I would ever see her again but at least she is safe-I think. I wrapped my right arm around Victoria’s waist and waved at the butterflies with my left, trying to hold back my tears.

“Goodbye Emily.” I exclaimed softly.

“And thank you. For everything.” I heard Victoria whisper.

She had a timid smile, but her voice and even eyes held sadness with a hint of amazement at what just happened.

I turned and surveyed the church. Nearly all the benches were turned over and everyone was gone. I really don’t want to be here when Pastor Galswells woke up. Especially after what just happened tonight. The only people that were left in the cathedral besides me and Victoria were Elder Gutknecht and Bonejangles. Bonejangles had the last butterfly in his bony hands, whispering something to it then letting it go, watching it flutter towards the moon with what seemed to be a gloomy expression. I can only tell because of the eye.

Then he turned to Elder Gutknecht and followed him towards the door that everyone went through. Back to the Land of the Dead.

“Elder Gutknecht,” I said, walking towards the senior skeleton. When he turned towards me, what I was going to say just died in my mouth. Now I’m not so sure if I want to know the answer.

“What will become of Emily, Elder?” Victoria questioned, stealing the words right from my mouth. Elder gave us what looked like a smirk and replied.

“She has been set free, my dear. Her vow has been fulfilled and her fiancé is dead. She is now in a better place, where her heart shall beat and her spirit can rest in peace.”

“What about…Lord Barkis? What will become of him?” I asked suddenly. If Elder can smile anymore than a smirk, it would be a more creepy smile.

“ I can assure you both that he will spend the rest of his deceased life downstairs in plenty of misery for what he has done to you, Victoria, and our dearest Emily.”

I only nodded, relieved. I looked back at Bonejangles, who also looked relieved but wore a downcasted look in his eye. Then, without looking at any of us or even saying goodbye, he opened the door and went back downstairs. Elder quietly signed and held the door open. He looked back at us and silently waved goodbye then closed the door behind him. I knew that if I opened the door now, it would just leave me to the basement of the church.

“Victor dear, I think we should get going. Your parents are already worried sick about you. Also, after what just with the skeletons in our house, I’ll be surprised if I will be allowed to see you again, or even marry you at that fact.” Victoria said, concerned as she grabbed my arm.

“Then let me walk you home, at least. I really don’t want to be here when Pastor Galswell wakes up.” I responded, laughing nervously.

The last thing I wanted was to confront an angry Pastor. Even if we leave now before he woke up, he would still hunt me down because I let “demons from hell” go into his church for the “wedding”. Victoria seemed to understand this and nodded. As we began walking home, she asked what happened from the moment I left the church till to when I came back. I just blurted out everything without even thinking.

By the time I was finished, we were standing in front of Victoria’s house. I bit my lip while casting a glance at Victoria. This could be the last time I’ll see her again. Possibly forever. As if reading my mind again, Victoria casted a sad smile at me and whispered,

"We’ll see each other again and we’ll still have the wedding. Promise.”

She kissed my cheek and hurried inside before I had a chance to answer. After looking at the entrance for a few moments, I made up my mind and began walking home.

While walking home, a few people gave me weird faces and started whispering to each other. I just ignored them. The only thing that was on my mind right now was Emily and the fact that I’ll never see her again. Her curly blue hair and that beautiful white wedding dress that fit her so perfectly that she looked almost like an angel corpse when she came out of the ground. I signed and put my head in my hands.

“I should’ve said something. Anything that would’ve just kept the wedding continue. My dreams weren’t taken away from me, and I’m pretty sure neither were Victoria’s. She found and married a Lord. I found true love and was about to give Emily the wedding she always dreamed of. Now it’s all just dead. Barkis is dead and Emily is free. I have to marry Victoria now; it is what’s best for her and my family. Pretty soon, it’ll be like I never left the church and met Emily. I never said my vows wrong.” I thought bitterly. I looked up at my door and prepared myself for the worst.

Heaven- Emily’s P.O.V- 6 months later

I was finally at peace, but as I danced through the flower field, I felt something missing. It felt as though I didn’t belong here. That I belonged back to the Land of the Dead. Their lively music, Ms.Plum, Paul, Bonejangles and his crew, Maggot, Miss Spider and Elder Gutknecht. I’m beginning to think my heart and soul belong there now. I looked back and my face turned thoughtful.

“I wonder…” It was worth a shot, it worked other times. I closed my eyes and pictured everyone’s face when they saw me back from heaven.

“Hopscotch.”

I felt a gentle breeze fluttering around me and smiled. I was going home.
