Wind flies through my hair. The sky gets farther and the ground, closer. Suddenly the sensation is gone and we make impact with the ground. Air flows out my mouth and nose and I struggle to recover. I find myself in my friends arms and we are off. Pushing through fleeing citizens. Only the two of us. The rest are infected. They're what we are running from. The attackers.

I don't have time to grieve for my friends. First we must make it past today. I look up at the man holding me. "Max, where are we going to go?" I whimper. "I don't know Ross." He whispers, pulling me closer and running faster. The tree line approaches and suddenly the noise of the mayhem in the street disappears. "Can you walk?" He asks me. I nod and grab his hand. We walk farther away from the city, farther away from the infected, farther away from the place I called home. It's all gone now. My friends, my family, my life. All that is left is the man standing and walking next to me.

Adam and Alesa became an attacker on the first round. Suffering through huge amounts of pain before they were taken away from us. They took Mason though. The men in black masks. They thought that the baby would spread it. Like he could cause any harm.

Jess, Jason, Shelby, Cory, Jake, Emily, and Tim were infected on the second round. They didn't suffer. It was quick and painless. But there was no time to escape from them. Everyone besides Max and I were torn to shreds by the turned monsters.

The crack of a stick brings me back. The world around me is dark and hazy. Fog settles over the dim forest making it nearly impossible to see. I hear the scrabble of woodland creatures around me. Digging themselves underground, protecting themselves for what is to come.

I grip onto Max's hand tighter as tears slip down my face. Faster and faster by the minute. Soon I'm all out sobbing. Max grabs me in a big hug. Wrapping his arms around my body. I sob into his shoulder. "Why us?!" I yell. "Why did they take everyone of our friends but not us? What is so special about us that we lived and they didn't?" I fall into a broken heap on the ground. Max pulls me onto his lap and rubs my back soothingly. "It'll be okay Ross." He tells me trying to be strong but failing miserably. Tears slip down his face as well and we sit there, hugging and remembering our friends the monstrous disease took from us.

A big raindrop falls on my nose. I duck down and cower from the rain. The sky is mourning for everything that everyone has lost today. Sympathizing for us and others in similar situations. Max pulls me to the lip of a cave that I didn't notice. I cuddle up against him and shiver. The cold has taken over, leaving me shivering and chattering.

A wave of fatigue slips up on me and it hurts to keep my eyes open. I slowly slip off into the dream world, leaving my body unprotected back in the cave until I wake.
