The next day is filled with phone calls from friends, family, the bank, and an insurance agency. We make arrangements to stay in the hotel for a while, but after that who knows where we'll go. I'm sitting on the couch, still in my pyjamas when my mom walks into the room with some groceries.
"I bought a few things for us, Leah, but I think we'll be eating out for a while. Your dad went into work for a few hours, we could use the extra money."
Just then, moms phone rings and she moves to the other side of the room. I turn on the tv, but I can hear the excitement in her voice as she talks. She hangs up and walks over to me excitedly.
"I have some great news!" I turn the tv off and listen to my mom. "Anne just told me that they would be happy to let us live with them until we get things figured out! Surely you remember Anne?
"Obviously I remember her mom, I grew up with Harry and Gemma. Of course Harry is probably some self absorbed pop star that doesn't care about anybody else." I state, annoyed.
"Sweetheart you can't just assume things like that. I'm sure Harry is the same nice boy that he always was back when we lived in England."
She pauses
"We will be going over there tonight in time for dinner and we will be living in their home until we get back on our feet. I expect that you will be respectful at all times. Now I need to go call your father."
Mom starts making phone calls, trying to get everything organized, while I just sulk on the couch. We have a long history with the Styles family.
My mom, Laurie, grew up in England with Harry's mother, Anne. They have been best friends all of their lives. My dad, Bill, was travelling around England when he met my mom. They married and I was born a few years later. I grew up seeing Harry and Gemma all the time, because our families were very good friends. Then, when I was 11 me and my parents moved back to L.A. About two months ago, Anne married a man named Robin, and their family moved to L.A. As well.
I haven't seem Harry since I moved away from England, but the magazines have told me enough of who he has become. He's a partier, a womanizer, and a self centred pop star. Living with him should be interesting.
We arrive at our new home around 5:30 pm. It is a very large, modern home, in its own quiet corner. The beach is within walking distance, and there is a large mall not too far away.
We are greeted by Anne, who gives each of us a hug and leads us inside.
"We have so much space here," she explains "I'm happy we have another family to share it with." She leads us to a light, spacious kitchen where Robin is making dinner and Gemma and Harry are seated at the table. They both stand up as we walk in and come over to say hello.
I exchange a friendly hug with Gemma, and I reach out to shake Harry's hand, but he pulls me into a tight hug instead. After he releases me, I shoot him a look. He smirks back at me. I won't fall for his flirting, I'm not that stupid.
"Gemma, why don't you show Leah to her room?" Anne suggests, breaking the awkward silence.
"Sure!" Gemma says excitedly, grabbing my wrist and pulling me along.
She takes me up to the second floor of the house and down a short hallway with only two rooms
"This is Harry's room," she says pointing to the one on the left. "And this is yours!" She leads me into the room across from Harry's room.
Great. I get to sleep in the room right across from him, I think grumpily
My room is nice with light beige walls, a queen sized bed, and a gorgeous blue bedspread. There's also a desk, a dresser, and a comfy looking blue chair. Gemma shows me my closet and my jaw drops open. It is huge.
"I'm sure you'll have fun organizing all your clothes in here!" She says excitedly. "I'll help you!"
I look down at the jeans and old sweater right now and realize that I don't have any other clothes.
"Oh right... Sorry." Gemma says, and she seems sincere. "I'll tell you what, we can go shopping tomorrow!" I nod in agreement and then we go back downstairs to eat dinner.
