Emily-

"Alright Anna, grab your blanket and get into the car. Andrew! Don't play with that, grab your backpack." I usher them outside the house for school. Anna's too young, but I can't keep her at the house alone.

"Mom! You forgot your purse!" Mason says and runs back inside the house to go grab it.

All the while I push the little ones inside of my car. Mason comes running out and slams the front door on his way.

"Thank you," I say and loop my arm through its straps.

I pick Anna up into the car seat, Andrew climbs in after her and gets into his booster seat. Mason crawls in last and I shut the car door behind him. I fast walk around the vehicle to the driver's side and hop in. I hear the clink of Anna's seat being strapped across her body. I don't have time to smile though. I dig in my purse for the keys before plunging them into the ignition. Then, I take a deep breath before exiting our long curvy driveway. Once we're all settled down and the car is at a steady pace, I look into the rearview mirror at my children. I see their eyes searching my face, wavering at the bruises on my left cheek. I wince at that and my heart plummets.

"Thank you Mason," I smile at him, my voice extremely appreciative because I am.

"No problem Mom," he waves off and pulls his backpack over his shoulders. I slow the car to twenty as we enter the school zone.

"I don't know what I would do without you!" I exclaim, they all giggle at my exhausted yet happy and grateful tone.

"We don't either!" Andrew pipes up and kicks his legs in his booster seat.

"Alright, calm down guys. Mason, make sure you get a green sticker today, okay?" I ask I as I turn the car into the school line. "Andrew, put your backpack on and the same goes for you too, green stickers." I say, slowly driving up the line beside the elementary and preschool.

"Okay Mom," Andrew says, I hear the shuffling of his bag as he puts it on.

The line comes to a stop and a teacher open the car door. "Bye! I love you, have a good day!" I yell and turn back around to watch them get out.

"I love you too!" They chorus before another teacher leads them away, inside of the school.

The original teacher scowls at me before slamming the door shut. She blows her whistle at me to leave. I sigh and drive away from my babies. I check my rearview mirror for Anna, her head is rolled to the side where her eyes are closed. She sleeps peacefully, a smile curves my lips before I flicker my gaze back to the road.

My phone rings and my breath hitches. Blake. I immediately answer with my heart pounding.

"Hey babe, Mason and Andrew at school yet?" He asks nonchalantly,

"I just dropped them off!" I reply cheerfully and hope I used the right tone with him.

"That's great, I just called to tell you that you don't have to go grocery shopping today. We're going to a restaurant for dinner, but I do need you to pick up some stuff for me." He says, I hum for him continue. "Go to Academy and buy that grill I've been eyeing, I just found they're having a sale there. Then I need you to get the kids their flue shots afterschool." He explains, but my brain automatically detects a problem.

"But, honey, today is the last day for flue shots and they close at twelve. What about the kids, they have lunch during that time?" I ask cluelessly, like he wants me to.

"Then pick them up early from school and buy them some food afterwards. I'm putting the money into your account now." He informs, I thank him.

"Bye baby, love you," he says and waits for me to respond.

"I love you too!" I make my voice sound happy. "Bye," I exclaim before he hangs up. My hand shakes as I set my phone down in a cup holder.

"Anna, I guess your nap is going to have to wait, Daddy wants his grill now." I speak to her sleeping form curled up in her car seat.

I turn the car into another direction that leads to the store, Academy. It's a ten minute drive before I'm a able to park my car in a free parking space. I stuff my keys into my purse and hop out. I fix my shirt and slide my fingers over my pants to rid of the wrinkles formed in them.

I open Annabelle's door and position her sleeping body on my hip. Her hands cling around my neck and her legs around my waist. I grab her blanket and shut her door. Then I open the trunk for a pillow, I hand it to her to hold while I slam the trunk shut. I grab the pillow and heft her higher on my hip, locking my arms around her body. My hands clench the blanket and pillow as I walk towards the store. I don't worry about my car, it locks automatically without the keys nearby. Once I enter the store, my immediate destination is a buggy. There I set Anna not in the seat, but the actual basket part. I put a the pillow under head and the blanket over her body as she curls up back into a nice slumber.

Then I push the buggy around the store till I reach the grills. There stands tall and proud, the grill in the middle on the highest stand. I check the price to see how much is off on everything. The discount is only 40% off, but I'm not going against him, no matter the price. A girl walks up with a bright mandatory smile. She has blonde hair, but hers is not like mine. Her hair is a sun kissed blonde while mine is a white translucent color. My mom always said it made me look exotic, but I have to disagree. The lady comes to a stop, she wears an ID clipped to her jeans so I know she works here.

"Is there anything I can help you with?" She asks politely, I catch her eyes staring at the bruises on my face, but to me it's normal.

"My husband wants me to buy this grill today, but I only have a car. Is there someway you can ship it over to my house?" I ask and turn my back to her as I look at the massive tank of metal.

"If course, that's no problem, just follow me and I'll give you some forms to sign before paying. She explains, I glance at her name tag for a name.

Angela.
