Chapter five

"Alright. There's a duct here. This is where I'm going to go. Rendezvous point is here, and the girl will be with Ebony." Ethan goes over various routes and explains the tactical advantage of being able to make the first move, having given into letting Harley go. David was leaning back against his chair, his arms crossed over his chest as he watches Ethan intently. Alice and Aaron stood around Ethan, leaning over his shoulder to see the blueprints, their faces blank of emotion.

Ethan, his comrades, Harley and I were sitting around the round table, discussing the plan, going over the blueprints to spring the attack. Alice had found out where Savannah was being held. 5 miles north of here in a warehouse.

I listen intently, cutting in at some points. "We follow this hallway here," Points along the white parallel lines, "This is where they hold the cells, where Savannah will be."

After going over it for the third time, Ethan dismisses all of the people to go and get their gear, as we'll be leaving tomorrow. I'm worried, who knows what the scientists are doing to her, who knows how she'll be. Ethan reassures me, and we go back to his room and lay under the blankets, trying to rest before the day ahead of us. Last night's memory making my body heat up. After awhile, he curls his arm around my waist, pressing me to him and whispering.

"I'll get her back for you, Ebony."

"I know Ethan... just.. I don't understand why I can't be there to help, on the front lines."

"It's too dangerous.. I can't lose you. I've lost you too many times before, and let my mind get in the way of how I feel. I don't want you taken away from me again."

"I won't be. I'm just as good as you." I refute once again.

"I know you are, Ebony. I just want to be cautious."

"I know."

He turns me towards him, looking into my emerald eyes with his sapphire ones. He kisses me on the forehead, and presses me to him again, cuddling with me until I finally fall asleep, tired from planning all morning. I don't understand why I feel so safe towards... around him. I've never felt like that before.

The next morning, he wakes me up and shows me armor that's almost exactly like his. It's black, with red highlights down the arms, legs and sides in a swirly pattern. His is the same with blue highlights. He helps me get into it, and then dresses himself. I grab a long sword, ninja stars and a machine pistol. All fast and effective ways to kill. Fast enough to get Savannah. We have to get her, Harley depends on it.

Ethan leads me out, walking to the hanger. We get there, and I see all of the people from the meeting before there, dressed in armor of some sort. Some with helmets, bulletproof vests, long or short boots and different color schemes. Alice purple, David has gold, and Aaron had orange lines. Some were wearing armor like mine and Ethan's, some wearing heavier armor, some wearing none at all. They all got into cars and trucks, driving out. Ethan goes over to his motorcycle, prepping it. Harley stood, nervously picking at her lips, decked out in black armor with pink highlights up her arms and legs. I give her a nod in greeting and she nods back.

"Sidecar or back of the bike?" He asks.

"Back." I answer, standing near his bike, the one he drove to Harley's house.

"Okay." He says, then double checks his equipment, and gets onto the bike. "Hop on."

I get in behind him, wrapping my arms around his waist, feeling his abs, a sexy six pack, not too subtly. He revs the bike up, speeding out of the hanger. The freezing cold air whips through my hair, raising goosebumps on my arms under my sleeves. His eyes narrow, and he turns and races down another road. Ethan's team, our team, follow behind us, their engines almost drowned out by the motorcycle's engine. Ethan yells over the wind, "Get ready!"
