Emma's POV.

I was laying on my stomach on my bed doing homework, and my mom knocked on the door.

"Emma? Can I come in?" she asked.

"Yeah sure, Mom." I moved my stuff off the end of my bed so she could sit down.  "What's up?" I asked as she sat down.

"Well as you know, your dad and I have that trip to California planned for our 15th anniversary in a couple weeks. And I just wanted to, you know, make sure it's okay with you that you still stay home by yourself for a few days."

"Mom, we've been over this. I'm going to be fine! I'm just gonna have Becca stay with me for a day then I'll be fine the rest." I assure her.

"Okay. Well just let me know because I'm sure Aunt Lydia would be thrilled if you stayed with her." she winks and starts laughing.

"I think I'm good." I laugh with her.

"Okay, honey. Finish up that homework." she smiled as she left my room.  I laid down and shut my eyes.

---

I haven't seen Nick since Wednesday morning, and it's Saturday night. I'm getting really worried about him, I hope he's alright.

I've been looking at my computer for so long that my eyes start to hurt, and it's almost 12:30. My phone starts ringing from a number I don't recognize, "Hello?" I ask.

"Emma? It's Nick." he says.

"Oh hi, where have you be-" he cut me off

"Can you meet me somewhere?"

"Um.. sure.." I say hesitantly

"Okay," he gives me the address then hangs up.

I pull on my leggings and a sweatshirt, and I slowly sneak downstairs. I come around the corner relieved, but a voice startles me "Where do you think you're going?" Jenny says, she's sitting on the couch with a thing of nutella, watching Netflix.

"Um, out." I lie.

"Mhmm" she hums not convinced. "Does mom and dad know?"

"Yes..." I lie again

"Oh my god Emma, even thought I'm 4 years younger, I'm still a better liar than you." she says.

"Yes you're right but, please just don't tell mom and dad." She puts her hand on her chin and looks up to the ceiling pretending she's deep in thought.

"Okay I'll let it slide this time, but if this happens again you owe me, big time. Deal?" she says, putting her hand out. I shake her hand then run out the door, excited but a little scared to see why Nick wants to meet me at such a strange hour of the night.
