Emma's POV.

After climbing a huge hill by the park, I finally get to the place where Nick told me to meet him and I am amazed. I look up and see millions of fireflies and Nick sitting up in a tree painting a jar. "Hey Nick" I say.

"Hi Emma, I'm so glad you came." he says as he climbs down from the tree. Then he awkwardly stands in front of me. I notice he has a band aid on the bridge of his nose.

"What happened to your nose?" I ask

"You always ask what's wrong with my face" he laughs. "But I cut it when I was climbing this tree tonight."

"Oh, okay." I say.

"Do you want to go up?" he asks motioning up the tree.

"Sure" I smile, and start  to climb up.

I reach the branch that he is sitting on and the view takes my breath away. We are at the top of the hill in a tree and from up here we can see our little town, sparkling with street lights. I see hills upon hills rolling over the horizon, and fireflies twinkling all around us. "So?" Nick says softly, "What do you think?"

"It's beautiful." I say, but that's an understatement. No words can express how simply amazing this view is.

I look next to me and I see Nick very focused on the jar. "What are you doing?" I ask.

"I'm painting this jar so that when we catch the fireflies, they will glow and the colors on the jar will light up as well."

"Oh, I've never thought of that." I said.

"It'll look really cool" he says.

I smile, and I notice he has a burn mark on his forearm. "Where have you been the past few days, Nick?"

"Oh, I got a minor concussion" he says.

"Oh my gosh. How did it happen?" I ask

"I fell down the stairs, but I'm okay." he smiles a warm smile which gives me relief.

"Well I'm glad you're okay." I smile at him. We share a moment, just the two of us looking into each other's eyes. It felt like I was frozen in his beautiful gaze, I feel myself looking at his lips. Why am I looking at his lips? Oh my gosh, what is happening right now? Why do I want to put my lips onto his?!

"Emma?" Nick asks softly.

"Yeah?" I reply.

"I'm sorry I was a jerk to you on the first day of school. I was only being like that because Jim told me to do that so I did. I wasn't thinking you were this amazing girl." he looks down swinging his feet.

"It's okay Nick, I'm sorry for not being nicer to you. I was judging a book by it's cover, and this has been a very good lesson for me never to do that again." I say with a smile. The wind picks up and I shiver, because I realize I left my coat in my car and I have a short sleeve shirt on.

"Are you cold?" he asks looking concerned.

"A little, yeah." I say. He nods then takes off the red and black flannel tied around his waste and gives it to me. I just notice that he wears that almost everyday. "Oh no, I can't take that. That's your favorite flannel."

"It's yours now." he smiles.
