Evergreen Diner was just off the highway eight minutes from campus.  It was old fashioned with booth seating and a retro design.  We entered and I followed Derek to a table in the back of the Diner away from everyone else. He sat down and immediately grabbed a menu. I slowly at and watched him read the menu.

After a few moments he looked up into my eyes.

"Hungry?"

"I guess. " I picked up a menu and started scanning it when the waiter arrived.

"What can I get you to drink?"

"Coffee. "

"And for the pretty lady?"

"She'll have coffee."

The waiter looked to me and I nodded before he went away.

"He's wrong.  You're much more than beautiful."

"Thanks." I blushed.

"Do you know what you want?"

"I might just get cheese fries."

"Cool. I'm getting a cinnamon bun."

I started giggling and then erupted into massive laughter.

"What's funny?" he had an amused look on his face.

"It's just you don't seem like the type to order a cinnamon bun."

"Don't judge the gentleman who asked you out."

"Is this a date? " I raised an eyebrow.

"Sure. I'd say I was successful in my mission."

"What mission?"

"Finding a beautiful girl to leave the party with me."

"looking to get laid?"

"Possibly." He shrugged.

"You're honest." I made a grimace.

"Don't feel bad kitten." he reached his hand to my face and put a strand of my silver hair behind my ear.

"You knows this won't be a one night stand."

"Are you saying we can do this again?"

Just before I could answer, the waiter came back with our coffees and took our orders.  I poured four packets of cream and five packets of sugar in my coffee and stirred it.  Derek drank his coffee black.  He was watching me make my coffee while drumming his thumbs on the table.

"Are you a musician?"

"No. Just nervous."  He stopped his fingers and shoved his hands in his pocket.

"Why?"

"You never answered my question."

"Oh. Well, I guess we might see each other around. "

"What are you majoring in?"

"Computer Science."

"Really? I guess we will be seeing each other then. That's my major."

"Cool. "

The waiter brought us our food and refilled our coffee.  Derek stole three of my cheese fries and satisfyingly ate them with a grin on his face.

"Great choice. Have a bite of mine."

He shoved a fork full of cinnamon bun in my face.  I chewed it happily and then washed it down with coffee. We mostly ate in silence,  but I learned that Derek is a junior.  He only went part time last semester so his credit amount was closer to mine. We both had intro to object oriented programming in c++ together so I would be seeing him tomorrow at three.  We made plans to walk to class together since I didn't know where the building was.
