I was alive, thankfully. Usually when bettas are in the process of developing in their eggs, things tend to happen unexpectedly. What? I don't know, but it was kinda sad that some of us didn't make it.
I am the fry on the right, the brighter one. The one on the left is my brother. You see, we were one of the last to swim away from our dad's bubble nest, so technically, I was a runt.
Anyway, it was quite interesting when we hatched out anyway. Our dad was a Halfmoon Double-Tail, so he had quite the spectacular fins. He makes a bubble nest in which he puts the eggs that the female laid. When we are first born, we hang vertically from our egg sacks. Our dad caught any of us that fell, so that was a bonus. It was really quiet for the first few days of this. Nobody talked - everyone was in their own minds. It was quiet, and I liked it.
Then, when the majority of us swam away from our egg sacks, our dad mysteriously disappeared. That was good, because if he still was with us, we'd all be eaten before we grew up to adulthood. After all of us grew out of our habits to be attached to our egg sacks, we started getting live food. I don't know where they came from, but I'm guessing that they came from the huge human who looks at us everyday. I think that she's the one who takes care of us.
I think that she was the one who took away our dad, because I saw him in an aquarium next to ours, so mystery solved!
She gave us some delicious microworms twice a day, and believe me - they tasted great! And this started from Day 4. We bettas certainly grow fast!
Anyway, as I've said before, I was a runt, and it wasn't before aggression started to break out among us.
Keep in mind that we're called Siamese Fighting Fish for a reason!
