Forget Me Not ~ Chapter 3

Never forget what you need to remember. ~Garrett Bartley

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aria’s P.O.V.
With every second passing by, I got more & more panicky. ‘What am I doing? What am I doing?’ I kept mentally scolding myself. I didn’t have a clue what to say when Damen answered his phone. If he answered his phone, that is. At that moment I secretly hoped I’d get his voicemail.
I was about to hang up & try to forget I ever tried to call, but then I heard someone’s monotone voice answer. “Montgomery residence.”
“Damen?” I asked, squinting at the wall in confusion. From what I remembered, it didn’t sound anything like Damen.
“Mr. Damen is not accepting phone calls at this time. May I ask who is calling?”
Mr. Damen?” I muttered & cleared my throat when I realized how stupid I must sound. “This is Aria… uh, could you please let Damen know that I called?”
I was really curious who I was talking to. Maybe it was his father or an older brother? Did Damen even have a brother?!
Because of this amnesia, everyone is a stranger to me again & I hated it. I hated not knowing someone who knows me better than I know myself. It just wasn’t fair!
Life’s not fair, Angel. The memory ran through my head for a few seconds. I remembered that Ashton used to always say that to me. Whenever he’d say it, he’d get this faraway look on his face. Now, I understand completely what he meant about life not being fair. It wasn’t, far from reasonable.
“Miss. Chaplynn? Is that yo-” the mystery man began saying in his boring voice but was cut off.
“William! What the hell is taking you so long? I don’t see an iced tea anywhere, tell me why that is! Get me my iced tea!” someone yelled in the background. My mouth dropped as I realized it sounded a lot like Damen.
The man with the monotone voice- William, quietly sighed. “I hate my job…" he lowly muttered to himself. Then he cleared his throat & asked, “This is Miss. Chaplynn I’m speaking to, yes?”
I nodded & quickly realized he couldn’t see me. “Yes?” I said it as a question.
“Wait one moment, please. Mr. Damen is expecting your call.”
The next silent five minutes of waiting felt like torture. I almost started biting my nails, I was so nervous, but quickly caught myself. This didn’t have to be so nerve-wracking, I was the only one freaking myself out. All I was going to do was have a conversation with someone. I needed to calm down because it wasn’t a big deal.
I took a deep breath & suddenly heard someone speak on the phone. “Princess?” Damen greeted in a sickeningly sweet voice. I cringed at the sound of his little nickname for me. I’d really have to have a talk with him about the Princess crap because I was not having it…
“Hello, Damen,” I said, my voice coming out strong. I smiled, liking the confidence in my tone. Even though I didn’t remember Damen, this conversation didn’t have to be awkward. I could do this all be myself & no one needed to hold my hand.
“I figured you’d call. Have you already eaten today or can we please have brunch?” I could practically hear the smile in his voice.
I was about to tell him brunch sounded great, but I bit my lower lip instead. It wasn’t because I didn’t want to see him- I was looking forward to it so I could hopefully find out some answers. Talking to Damen would help me learn about the pre-amnesia Aria, I was sure.
